Publisher's Summary

The "powerful and emotionally charged" fantasy series from the author of the Sevenwaters novels continues, as Blackthorn and Grim face haunting secrets and old adversaries.
Feather bright and feather fine, none shall harm this child of mine.
Healer Blackthorn knows all too well the rules of her bond to the fey: seek no vengeance, help any who ask, do only good. But after the recent ordeal she and her companion, Grim, have suffered, she knows she cannot let go of her quest to bring justice to the man who ruined her life.
Despite her personal struggles, Blackthorn agrees to help the princess of Dalriada in taking care of a troubled young girl who has recently been brought to court while Grim is sent to the girl's home at Wolf Glen to aid her wealthy father with a strange task - repairing a broken-down house deep in the woods. It doesn't take Grim long to realize that everything in Wolf Glen is not as it seems - the place is full of perilous secrets and deadly lies.
Back at Winterfalls, the evil touch of Blackthorn's sworn enemy reopens old wounds and fuels her long-simmering passion for justice. With danger on two fronts, Blackthorn and Grim are faced with a heartbreaking choice - to stand once again by each other's side or to fight their battles alone.

Third Time's The Charm

This is the third and hopefully not last novel in Marillier's Blackthorn and Grim fantasy series. It's as good, if not better, than the previous two. Den Of Wolves has a well executed plot and expertly developed characters.

Strong females are consistently front-and-center in this dark fairy tale-like world. Although the reader experiences other-worldly creatures, the atmosphere is actually more comparable to magic realism.

This series does not have a lot of the war and bloodshed as in many epic fantasy series, but don't be can be equally as brutal. The focus is on character interaction, survival, and of course, the unique relationship between the haunting Blackthorn and the gentle giant, Grim.

There is closure to the storyline in this novel, but the characters are so strong that the opportunity is there for the series to continue. I hope it does.

Most enjoyable - loved it!

I loved this book's main story, which was yet again filled with imagination. But this book also has a lovely way of rounding off Blackthorn and Grim's troublesome past.
I didn't enjoy the idea that a story so rounded might mean the end of the series - please, no!
I'm really hoping Blackthorn & Grim will simply enter a new phase of uncanny detections.
I recommend Blackthorn & Grim to anyone that enjoys magical soothing and the romance of true enduring love that has a slow but steady build.
I will hope and look for another in this series. Bravo!

Everyone Should Have A Grim :-}

I admit, I approached this series with some caution, as I had tried to listen to two other series by this author, and just couldn't get into the stories. Looking at some of the reviews for Blackthorn and Grim, made me think that this one might be different. Many of those who loved the "Sevenwaters" series and the "Bridei" series didn't like the "Blackthorn and Grim", and I had to wonder why. As I said, I just couldn't get into the two mentioned series, as they are much more like Historical Fiction, than Fantasy, even though they do have some fantasy elements. This series though, is much more Fantasy, and I LOVE IT :-} As you might have guessed, my favorite character is Grim. He is the truest of fiends. Everyone should have a friend like Grim. I have a feeling that this is the final book in this amazing series, but I for one would be happy to read more about Blackthorn and Grim.

This series has been brilliant! I have really enjoyed it. The narration was excellent. If you enjoy tales of old Ireland and Celtic mythology this series is for you.
