Publisher's summary

One man. One ghost. The fate of our world.

When Rohan finds that a betrayal and near-death experience leave him with mysterious powers, it’s up to him to stop a man with dark magic from opening a portal to the dead.

His only help is in the form of a ghost who doesn’t remember who she is or why she’s there.

Will this odd duo of the spiritual and magical realms be enough to save the world?

Entertaining!

I liked it. I would have liked it more if the hero wasn't getting his butt handed to him every time he turned said butt around. Looking forward to the next book.

Death Marked (Modern Necromancy #1) by Justin Sloa

I was gifted this audio ARC from the author for a honest and unbiased review.
This is one of the best books I've listened to. There was never a dull moment.
This is a great Halloween read. The characters Rohan meet up with whilst wanting to bring his beloved back, are as eerie as the environment around him. But he will do anything to bring her back to life. I really felt for him. This is a great Urban Fantasy.
Michael La Ronn was fantastic through the the book.
You'll have to spare some time out for this book, it will consume you.

Action Packed!

Where does Death Marked rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

You want me to rank my children. LOL? I've been privileged to listen to a lot of amazing books. My preference is for longer books--either complicated world systems, or books describing generations of families (a la Ken Follett). I liked this book and would place it squarely in the middle.

What did you like best about this story?

I found the plot/premise to be very interesting. The horror aspects were well written and I was successfully creeped out!

Have you listened to any of Michael Tamburrino’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I believe this is the first book I've listened to that is narrated by Michael Tamburrino. His voice characterization was amazing. Each character was given life and personality in a unique way.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found the horror aspects of the story to be, well, horrifying. Usually zombies make me laugh (I know, I'm not normal) but the ones in this book aren't comical...they're scary.

Any additional comments?

The book started off a little slow for me--I had neglected to read any blurb about the book so I kept wondering what this book was about. So, I put the book aside a few times in order to listen to other books. I regret that I did so. The only reason I mention this is to assure anyone who encounters the same issue to just hang in there because once the action starts it is a whirlwind! I really enjoyed the book and look forward to any others in the series.

An enjoyable story of love and loss.

how far would you go to get back the love of your life? If you said "I'd do anything" would that include (with no training) a commando raid against a vastly superior force? In the mountains? the Ural mountains? would you resort to necromancy? would you be able to remain true to yourself through all this? Buckle up, the ride gets bumpy from here.

Plenty of action and some cool plot twists

What made the experience of listening to Death Marked the most enjoyable?

A friend recommended this book to me. It isn’t my preferred genre, so I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a good book with plenty of action, and--kudos to the authors--there are even some cool plot twists that I never would have expected. Hand-in-hand with the cool plot twists, there were some really deep emotions, and for me, that combination really made the book special.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Corrine. You'll have to listen to the book to learn more, because that name is the only spoiler you'll get from me.

Great Beginning To An Exciting Series!!!

Overall I enjoyed the audio version of Death Marked. At times I thought more inflection could be used, the narrator seemed monotone at times. The story itself was very interesting. I admit that I very much disliked Rohan in the beginning.. He seemed spineless and I was not believing that he would just blindly follow these strangers and do whatever they said - but then I thought about it and actually many people would do anything to get a loved one back so I came to understand why he was the way he was. I look forward to reading book 2 to see where the story goes from here.
