Publisher's summary

Winter has arrived.

It has been nearly one year since the zombie hordes claimed the world. As the plague eats away at its victims' bodies, the Fox survivors search for a safe place to rebuild what they have lost. But a dangerous new threat has risen, hunting them from every direction.

To survive, Cash, Clutch, and their small band of refugees must put their faith in a group of strangers and a new government with radical plans. It will take all of the Fox survivors' strength and courage to endure in this barren, hostile world. Even that might not be enough.

A great finale to an inspired zombie series.

Would you consider the audio edition of Deadland Rising to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print edition.

What other book might you compare Deadland Rising to and why?

That's the great thing about the Deadland series. In the zombie apocalypse genre, there really is no comparison. That is the only reason I took the time to listen to the Deadland series. I personally hate zombie stories because they are all the same. Rachel brought something new to the table with these books.

What does Hollie Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Any time you get Hollie behind a microphone, wonderful things happen. She always brings whatever story she is reading to life. She has a knack for differentiating each character. Her performances feel more like a dramatization than a narration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The world has changed, and only those who change with it will survive.

Any additional comments?

I see room for many spin off stories. Like the group that had the twins, how did they survive? Or the nuns with Henry. They would be a great addition to the Deadland saga.

One cannot help but connect to the characters

In an effort to save the residents of Fort Fox from the oncoming hordes of zombies and the harsh upcoming winter, they move their operations onto a couple of barges due to the generosity of another local struggling group. Although greed and thievery create misunderstandings, the zombies still manage to create havoc by distracting the survivors and thus allowing the Black Sheep to board.

A large portion of the survivors make it and escape into the horde infested area traversing to New Eden. It is there they begin to assimilate and feel comfortable. New Eden has discovered a possible cure but now they have to go to the new government – a government with a plan. That plan Cash, Clutch and Jase must stop at all costs.

Cash, Clutch and Jase continue to fight the good fight and take care of everyone they can. New friends are discovered and counted on at the new government facility. Try as they might, time is limited and fighting the good fight may not be enough. We are forced to say goodbye to some old friends and new ones.

Rachel Aukes continues the saga of the Deadlands with this third and final installment with Cash, Clutch and Jase reaching a satisfying and shocking end. Full of twists and turns, Aukes manages to take us full circle and still keep the surprises coming hard and fast.

Aukes sets the zombie apocalypse to the Dante Alighieri’s final poem found in the Divine Comedy using the seven virtues as the theme for a set of chapters. Uniquely done, Aukes has accomplished what many wish to do – find a new take on zombies and the evils of humankind.

The plot was well thought through and executed; the character development excellent. We see the characters grow and change according to age, the situation and maturity. One cannot help but connect to the characters – you will gasp and feel anger at some of the twists and deaths. Aukes counts on our connection and therefore she handles the deaths in a respectful and caring manner (they may die horribly but they are recognized for their value as an individual and a friend). I did have to laugh as Aukes captured the relationships and played them out with touches of humor that is subtle but if one is observant enough, you will notice the humor.

Hollie Jackson did another excellent job at narrating. I love her enthusiasm and ability to keep the readers connected through her controlled voice.

The production quality was excellent. I had no issues or concerns.

Excellent conclusion to the series

This is definitely one of the best post apocalyptic series I've listened to! I wish there were more books in the series but Rachel Aukes finishes the story with a great bitter sweet ending. Sort of a happy ending with the possibility of a vaccine for the zombie virus, but a few good people are lost along the way. Hollie Jackson gives another great performance!

Starting Over!

Another great story by Rachel Aukes. It does sadden me that its over. I wasn't expecting it to end the way that it did. I really want more please, just one more book. I don't think it will happen but I had to try. I know everyone is writing about zombies and it tends to get old with everything sounding like The Walking Dead but Rachel Aukes has created three fantastic zombie stories. Rachel gives us hope that a cure will be made to cure the world of the zombie plague and get the world back and livable. You really should read/listen to all three books because you will be amazed, shocked, and emotions will run wild. A perfect story so I'm not giving out details, you'll need to find out for yourself.

The narrator Hollie Jackson gave another stellar performance. Hollie is a very talented narrator that had me glued to this story from start to finish. I look forward to listening to more of her work. Overall, a perfect 5 star rating!

A fitting ending to a great series,

Although to my opinion this was the lesser of the three books, I still enjoyed it immensely. It's a solid sign off to a great series.

Excellent book, brilliant narration!

Hate to part with characters now I've finished the trilogy...not least because of Hollie Jackson's mastery in narration.
The books are really good, even if not perfect - an enjoyable reading!
