Publisher's Summary

Welcome to Olympia, home of magical secrets, dangerous monsters, mystical creatures, and the few people able to fight them!
David is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or at least that is what he feels like when the FBI recruits him to go undercover in his high school. Isn't it bad enough that he is bullied by several football players, and they are the very ones he has to investigate!? But now he has to find out if they are circulating a deadly drug with a huge side effect: it turns a kid into a hideous, blood-sucking chupacabra!
Sure, he has wizard powers, but he never really used them before. Plus, he can't tell a single person about his undercover work, not even his best friend, Sam. And his parents expected him to keep his schoolwork and grades up, or he will get grounded.
David feels in over his head.
But as he delves deeper and deeper into the case, he realizes he must solve it quickly before a murder occurs, especially his own!

Magic in a high school

Where does David Finkleman and Dangerous Magic rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is by far one of the best audiobooks I have listened to. The story was entertaining and flowed extremely fast. I didn't want to stop listening to the book until I was finished. I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Have you listened to any of Al Kessel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first I have listened to and wouldn't hesitate to listen to another one of his books. His voice made me love the characters I was supposed to love and hate the characters I was supposed to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I really did mostly listen to this all in one sitting. It was an exceptionally good listen!

Fast Paced Teen-Age Wizard Story

David Finkleman and Dangerous Magic was a fun and fast paced teen-age wizard story. I really enjoyed this book because even though the subject matter was fairly dark (wizards, good vs. evil, monsters etc.) it was still light and humorous. I appreciate a good teenage dystopian series as much as the next person- but this was a very pleasant change from the typical gory, overly dramatic and depressing stories you often find in this genre. David was an extremely likeable character who navigated the ins and outs of high school and his burgeoning wizarding powers. He had to deal with an outbreak of dangerous magical pills at his high school- and did so in an entertaining and fairly believable (for a story about teenage wizards) way. The only thing that detracted from the story for me were some of the character voices (especially some of the adult characters) which were oddly slow and seemed forced. Other wise I thought it was an entertaining and fun read!
