Publisher's summary

What if everything America depends on for everyday life is suddenly taken away? No phones, no electricity, no automobiles? What will tomorrow bring? What will you eat? How will you get water? What will happen as your hunger and desperation grow? Will you turn against your neighbors, your friends? Or will you work together to face the deadly challenges of everyday life?

The United States of America is a nation on the brink of collapse. With high unemployment, religious extremism, partisan politics, and civil unrest, mixed with the uncertainty of the global financial markets, it's just a matter of time before it all comes crashing down. Some countries are poised, troops at the ready, waiting for this day and the opportunity to seize it all.

Levi Nirschell, family man, rancher, patriot, and NSA operative has devoted his life to the service of his country. He has spilled his own blood, time and time again, for the cause of liberty and the protection of the innocent. Now his nation calls on him once more for its salvation. This time it's different - this time it's not just his life that's at stake. This time it may cost him everything he holds dear.

Collective Retribution is a prophetic look at the coming fall of the United States, and those who will be the catalyst in bringing about her destruction. Who will survive? Will America be rebuilt and return to her former glory? Or will she turn into something quite different than the Founding Fathers dreamed of? Something ugly - something evil?

A decent enough listen

The story itself may not be the most original, but it was still a good story. I appreciate the author telling the whole tale, rather than splitting into small parts across seperate books. The narration left a little to be desired, but wasnt bad or annoying. Worth the time if you enjoy the genre.

Very, very interesting. Enthralling.

A wonderful story. An enormously thought provoking book. I would love to read this book with an intelligent book club, to discuss the themes and philosophize. Can't wait for Audible to get the next book !!!!! Hurry please !

Entertaining but...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I enjoyed the story, but the main character of course was a former SEAL and NSA agent, knew everything in advance, had the resources to prepare, so that he and his beautiful wife and perfect family, road out an EMP and super plague with no more than a little inconvenience.

Would you be willing to try another book from D. S. Edwards? Why or why not?

Sure, just tone down the cliches a little bit

Intriguing

Very interesting story. Could not ever guess which way the story was going to go.
Couldn't stop listening once I started.
Makes me want to take care of a few things I've been planning on doing.

Decent story, budget narration

This is another one of those stories that are written fairly well. The story keeps moving without getting to bogged down in tech talk and gear spraying, there is a good plot and you end up liking the good guys and fearing the bad ones.....if there is a but to this story and there are some it would have to be that this book walks right down the prepper formula story line without much in the way of surprises. Oh, the narration - it is done by the author, which with the exception of Bill Bryson, is consistently a mistake - not sure why it happens so often, but it happened here and you will just have to deal with the fact that it sounds like your uncle or cousin reading the story to you.
If you like the genre give it a go, it will keep the miles passing, recommended for fans mostly.

"More dangerous, than baits to fish."--Shakespeare

What did you love best about Collective Retribution?

It is a warning of things to come. The men and women in charge of protecting our nation don't always show strength: That can be an invitation for others to come into our country and rule by force.
It was not meant to be a military survival handbook; as one person that rated this audio book wanted.

What did you like best about this story?

.I could smell the pine and feel the cold bite of winter as I became part of the hunt in the opening, Great descriptive passages all the way through the book. Held my interest on every thrilling page.

What does D. S. Edwards bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The personality and heart of the characters are revealed as this author reads the book. Listening to the feeling tone the author sets, coupled with the descriptions of the characters in this book. Makes me see into the heart of good people struggling against an oppressive evil.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

We're the greatest nation on Earth! We'll never fall!

Any additional comments?

What a wild ride. Is this a prophetic look at our country's future?

Starts strong, ends week

What did you like best about Collective Retribution? What did you like least?

I like the concept of post apocalyptic society. I did not like the sermons, however in that situation, I would use whatever the brainwashed populous believed in to raise an army as well.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

It was interesting how the author brought in soldiers from other countries to control the people...like what other countries do by bringing us in. Why did the author choose the Germans to be the villain force?

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of D. S. Edwards?

Anyone that does not talk through his nose...get the guy who reads for Matthew Bracken.

Could you see Collective Retribution being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It needs Hollywood to salvage this.

Thrilling. Chilling. Fulfilling! worth the read!

What did you love best about Collective Retribution?

The plot, the character development the relationships and interaction was very good.
I thought it was a bit chilling when realizing that we are seconds away from the world described in this book at any given time. The tech is there, the will on the part of our enemies is there, and there is only the fact that those on our side have not made any mistakes yet. Once they do make a mistake - this could be our future.
Collective Retribution will paint a picture of what the characters do next. How they endure, come together and stand against the tyranny and oppression. This is a book that you won't be able to put down. You will find yourself irritated when it jumps from one storyline to another - leaving you on the edge of your seat (like a good book should).

What other book might you compare Collective Retribution to and why?

This book is comparable to several other survival type books like 'going home' or 'holding their own' series's but more realistic and moderate. It is more like 'the end' series - which I have really enjoyed! There is plenty of action and there is all the elements of a good book such as thrills, love, tragedy, and triumph.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the slaves rose up against their palace 'lords'. There is nothing like poetic justice for tyrants. One minute you think all is lost, but the next minute the story takes a sharp turn and justice is served.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A story of the undying american spirit

Any additional comments?

I like survival / or post apocalyptic type novels, but many books in this category are written as if for 5th graders. The hero's do the impossible, and the villains do everything wrong. This one isn't like that. It is believable which for me is important. It is also well researched and flows and makes sense. If you like this genre you will love Collective Retribution. If you don't like this type of book, I can tell you that even my mother enjoyed this one - and she doesn't read this type of book either, but she devoured this book! Give it a try - you will love it!
