Publisher's summary

After staking their claim on the unforgiving Prairie, the three Hamm brothers' straw bale house is destroyed by a freak tornado. Can the brothers stop the dastardly blowhard behind it all? Or will their dreams get blown away?

Blowhard is a retelling of the classic fairy tale, "The Three Little Pigs", set in The Clockwork Republics. Discover an alternate reality where the American states never united, and with a little steam, some alchemy and a few gears, almost anything is possible.

YOU GOT THE JUMP ON ME

This little short is short on Steam, Punk, Fairy Tale and Story. The only steam machine is a machine called wolf, which blows up tornadoes on command. As far as the Hamm brothers, you can put lipstick on a cowboy, but he is still a cowboy. I am not sure I would consider the three little pigs to be a fairy tale?

THE TRUTH WAS SOMETIMES THE HARDEST THING FOR PEOPLE TO BELIEVE

I guess Scott Westerfield is the closest I have come to a author who can write good Steampunk, but I will keep looking.

The Big Bad W.O.L.F Machine

Would you listen to Blowhard: A Steampunk Fairy Tale again? Why?

Yes. It was a fun listen and took about an hour :) Great distraction for a rainy day! I hope the author writes more stories with Elias as he continues his adventures! I adore the world this story is set in and hope to revisit it again and again! Both new stories and old :)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blowhard: A Steampunk Fairy Tale?

The Hansel and Gretel moment was totally THE BEST! Hehe

Which character – as performed by Jason Davidson – was your favorite?

Jason Davidson did a good job conveying all the different characters and their personalities but I have to say my favorite character was Elias. He was, by far, the most interesting character! Brave and loyal and unable to be cowed, he was an inspiration both to the reader and all the other protagonists in the book :)

Any additional comments?

This series does not need to be listened to (or read) in order as it consists of stories just based in the same world and not necessarily connected to each other via plot or storyline. This is the first book based in this world. I can't wait to listen to more!

The Hamm brother are trying to make a new life for themselves as pig farmers in Kansas. Far from the city, and all its distractions, getting along is more difficult than ever! Add the pressure of all living in a damp, rotting house filled with mildew, must and mice... How will they survive long enough to thrive? Deciding to build other houses seems to take a bit of pressure off. If only the sinister Otto von Rudolph wasn't pressuring them to sell their claim!
Will they ever learn to get along? Where did the twister coming from in the middle of winter? How is Otto involved? Should they give up and sell?

***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy steampunk fantasy fairytales with a dash of horror, romance (though there isn't really any real romance in this particular installment) & plenty of action and adventure :)

I'll Huff and I'll Puff

Katina French gives us a very creative retelling of the Three Little Pigs with a steampunk twist complete with the entertaining Hamm brothers, the evil dude, his mechanic, and of course the wolf. The Hamm brother, Elijah, Elias, and Elliott have more than just the hard life of a pioneer and brotherly love/hate to contend with when the twisters start up.

Jason Davidson did a great job when voicing and emoting individual characters but his narration was on the stale side.

I look forward to listening/reading the other stories in the Clockwork Republic Series.
