Betrayal certainly is the name of the game in this bitter-sweet love story...... your lover, your friends and the biggest betrayal of them all your Brother. Saint (aka Declan) has loved only one woman and the pain of her betrayal has left him a moody disliked s.o.a.b. even decades later. His life is now in danger as the Archons have made him the next S.O.N. to be eliminated and it's up to Solenne to protect him but they have a heartbreaking history which is slowly revealed in flashbacks and conversations.

There is always so much to these books sub plots, the building war with the Archons, twists, surprises, revelations, a hot love story and, in this case, betrayal. It's not action packed but rather emotionally packed and, as the layers of deceit are finally peeled away, what's left is a very romantic but tragic love story. There are other Sons as well as more secondary characters, some vamps are staked and one has come back from the dead, the further deciphering of the Prophecy has given the Sons a few extra clues and Saint, well can he finally find peace, forgiveness and love.

Told from dual P.O.V's and the narrator did a great job with the voices BUT the narrative parts got slower and quieter until they became almost just a whisper. Could just pass as a stand-alone but certain facts, histories, characters and events would be lost.

Worth a credit? This series is building and building into a very imaginative saga as eight Sons try to understand and fulfil an old Prophecy, fight an evil ever growing threat, try to stay alive and, of course, fall in love..... but there's never quite a HEA ending because the good v evil battle is yet to be fought. As a PNR junkie this, along with some passionate sex scenes, ticked all my boxes so YES very creditworthy.
