WotB was the first Battletech book I read, and reputed to be one of, if not the best of the entire series. It's an excellent story of friendship, politics, betrayal, and self sacrifice.
This reading is much better than I expected, especially after the narrator gets 'settled in' he becomes more emotive. There are some scattered sound effects, mostly appropriate and enhancing the atmosphere. The scattered bits of music, aside from the final scene, tend to be loud and annoying, though.
The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because of how much they cut out. I understand wanting to trim the story down, but several of the cut scenes were not only crucial to the plot, but crucial for understanding the scenes that WEREN'T cut. In one example, two guys are conversing, and after a 'transition sound' they're fighting to the death. Obviously, something important happened between the two scenes @@
I'm a huge fan of the book and am very aware of what's missing, but if I wasn't this story would have only made minimal sense.
Thumbs up for performance
Thumbs down for hacking up the story
