Starship captain Ardeva "Dev" Korrell is used to fighting prejudice, both because she's a woman in what's normally a man's line of work and because she's from a world with a misunderstood religion. She's a pilot without a ship until she's hired by Roscil Larramac, owner of the small trading vessel. He seems a bit shady for Dev's taste, but beggars can't always be choosers.
Problems come almost immediately. On a trading mission to the backwater planet of Dascham, one of her crewmen runs afoul of the local gods and is quickly zapped by a bolt of divine lightning. Dev, always eager to avoid trouble, wants to simply conclude their business and leave as quickly as possible, but Larramac has other ideas. He reckons the "gods" are ordinary beings like themselves, but with high technology that dazzled the natives. Why not free the natives from the gods' tyranny and earn a rich reward for their efforts? Against her better judgment, Dev finds herself leading her small crew into battle. They must fight off an army of robots, scale the holy mountain and defeat the tyrannical, god-like beings who have enslaved the native population. The task before them is straightforward: to storm the gates of Heaven itself!
Exciting science fiction adventure with nonstop action and a dynamic female protagonist.
