Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Not sure I can even finish it
Really strange reading style, at first I thought it was a non native speaker as everything about his narration is strange.
Story is really slow and quite boring.
Will try to muddle through it... I think.

It's a really awful story but still fun
It's a really awful story but still fun. This book Is really aweful. The beginning has quite a few silly fact errors – navy has not had pharmacists mates since 40’s. But if you can suffer though the beginning it’s actually a fun listen by the end.

Good Stuff
Michael Pauley is one of the best Narrator's out there. The story line is well worth the time.

Faux Excitement of Narrator is Tedious
This story is good and has a few new plot lines compared to the dozens of similar books I've read/listened to. However, the narrator used a fake high-tension voice throughout, even when he was describing the protagonist boiling beans and a potato for supper.
This ongoing adrenaline style just wore me out, as did the hundreds of emphatic "Jack As*ed", "Jack As*ed" etc. (Listened and you'll know the context). I kept flinching when I heard another "Jackas#" and thought some insane person had entered the scene shouting names.
Hopefully, authors will eventually start thinking about LISTENERS, not just readers, and refrain from using similar names, names that have other possible meanings in a sentence (Art, Si, Stone, etc.) and single syllable names. We listeners then won't have to figure out the meaning via of the context. I, personally, can't hear an uppercase letter versus a lowercase one!

Narrator is trying to win an Oscar
I think the story would be much more enjoyable if the narrator wasn’t trying so hard. Every. Single. Sentence. Is. Said. Dramatically. Also, the Japanese character almost sounds like an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression. I’m sure he is a gifted person who is just trying incredibly hard to do a great job. But, it’s too much. I’m only a few chapters in and I’m not sure I can continue. Feedback for the narrator, relax a little not every sentence is climactic. Also you finish most sentences in the same way, vary it a little. I will watch for future stories read by Michael Pauley, I’m sure his time is coming :)

Great story, horrible narration.
The story gets better as you go, especially when he gets to the mud lake. I've heard many post-apocalyptic audiobooks and this is the first volcano scenario I've encountered. refreshing. I've also heard a lot of narration. narrator needs work. try losing the "breathiness".

Fantastic!!
One of my favorite post apocalyptic books to date! I loved the twist since so many of these books are about an EMP.
I can't wait for the next one!!

great story line, the writing and parts of the story are very amateur at best. the performance is terrible. the story will keep your interest, a better actor would help immensely
