Publisher's summary

International best-selling author Trudi Canavan returns with the second novel in the Millennium's Rule series - her most powerful and thrilling adventure yet.

Tyen is teaching mechanical magic at a school respected throughout the worlds. News arrives that the formidable ruler of all worlds, long believed to be dead, is back and enforcing his old laws - including the one forbidding schools of magic. As teachers and students flee, Tyen is left with no home and no purpose...except the promise he made to Vella, the sorcerer imprisoned in a book. Tyen must decide what he is willing to do to free her.

After five years among the tapestry weavers of Schpeta, Rielle's peaceful new life has been shattered by a local war. As defeat looms, the powerful Angel of Storms appears and invites Rielle to join the artisans of his celestial realm. But what will he require in return for this extraordinary offer?

this is shaping up to be a really great series. the moral dimensions of the characters are intriguing and I'm hoping romance blooms!

confused

this series is confusing and took to long to come clear, although I enjoyed the books I'm not overly excited about them.

Liked it!

I thought it was a good follow-up to the last book, and I'm wondering where things will go next in this. I expect to conclusion to be excellent, based on what has happened so far.

Fantastic! Though personally I'd like fewer worlds

Adored it! The readers were top notch as well. During the highest drama moments you can just feel the characters' rage thanks to how well the lines were spoken.
I would like to see more time spent on detailed, intriguing worlds rather than tons of nameless ones with one gimmick or only one place/city worth of note. Passing through so many and barely staying at all feels like it cheapens the wonder of discovering new worlds in general. Loratia and Firea were so in depth with their own cultures, histories, and such interesting ways of handling magic. I would love to see more like them.
Also, more Vela! She's so much fun!

It was ok

It’s been a couple years since I’d read the first book of the series so maybe I was no longer emotionally vested in the characters that were holdovers. I’ve read all of Trudi Canavan’s other works and enjoyed them immensely but couldn’t really get into this one. I’ve already purchased the entire series though so I will continue and hope for the best

Ok but later books get VERY repetitive!

The first book is good. The world is interesting and there seems like a few nice plot lines.
But as the series goes on the same details and descriptions get repeated over and over again until you find yourself metally yelling "I KNOW ABOUT THE DAMN BREATHING THING! YOU'VE MENTIONED IT 50 TIMES ALREADY!"

Besides the over explanation, its fine. Cool universe, interesting idea and great narration but just not very engaging.

Great story and narration. Listened to it every chance I got. I'm already craving more of both.
