Publisher's summary

Reginald Worthington is a vindictive man. He blames US Marshal Mason Sadler for the death of his only child, the former Mrs. Sadler. Now Worthington wants revenge.

Enlisting the services of a highly skilled team of cutthroats, he dispatches them to Tombstone with orders to kill Sadler and anyone he cares about, especially Belle Dubois, the Bird Cage Theater Madame and the love of his life who just happens to be the new Mrs. Sadler.

Not leaving the Marshal's demise to chance, Worthington also engages the talents of the Professor and his latest invention, a quadcopter mounted with a Gatling Gun. His mission? Kill Sadler, even if it means destroying Tombstone in the process.

Expecting Worthington's retribution, the Marshal assembles his own team: the ever resourceful Belle Dubois who just happens to be a Pinkerton agent; two Chiricahua Machinists and their single-seater airships; Johnny Ringo, a gunslinger of questionable repute; and two walking dead, one a 350-year-old conquistador and the other a recently murdered miner.

Right now, things aren't looking too good for the Marshal and his motley crew.

Like a Steampunk Cowboy in a steam blasted rodeo

An ounce of Lead follows Marshall Sadler through a steampunk western setting. In this book, a vindictive and hate raging father-in-law has decided the marshall has to go, and go out screaming. So he hires a band of scallwags (sorry, that's pirates) OUTLAWS to dispose of his ex-son-in-law.

Sadler however, is wise to the situation, and puts together a deadly posse consisting of his new wife, some steampunk engineers, and a pair of zombies. The bullets fly and the steam is hot in this western tale. Someone's gonna get their due, just who, though? This is a combination of a Sergio Leone movie and the Wild Wild West (TV show), the only connection to that Will Smith abomination is the Steamspider. I just want PDMAC to create a Doctor Loveless style character for Sadler to match wits with next book!

Wannell is perfect once again, and hits like the hammer on a fully loaded six gun. He brings some authenticity to the voices, and plays his role of narrator perfectly. The title might be called An Ounce of Lead, but it is worth a bar of gold.

Get it, read it, love it.

The west meets the modern age

I enjoyed this story. pdmac write an intriguing story where the old west meets the modern age. The way pdmac incorporates machines, zombies and romance makes for an engaging book. Steve Wannall does a very good job in the narration of the story.

Weird West at its best!

This was my first taste of anything written by Pdmac, and I am so very glad I found it. I had not listened to the first book in the series (which now I will definitely be going back to read the first). This being said, I do not normally jump into a series without starting with book one, but I was very quickly able to get in "the saddle" and along for the ride. I am sure I may have missed some backstory, but I was still able to enjoy it. Steve Wannall's performance in the audiobook was spot on and I finished this book within 3 days.

Even though there elements of Steampunk, I think this story is more of a Weird West tale. This is a genre that I am always looking for, but so very rarely able to find.

Western, steampunk, and zombies!

US Marshal Mason Sadler maintains a happy relationship with Belle Dubois, the Bird Cage Theater Madame. But their happiness may come to an end, since Reginald Worthington, a powerful and very rich man, and also father to Sadler’s deceased wife, blames Sadler about his daughter’s death; so he is decided to make Sadler and his loved ones suffer and die.

This was a very entertaining listen. A mix of western, steampunk, and zombies. This, in fact, the second book in a series. I have not listened to the previous book and I could keep up with the story, but I would recommend reading the first book before venturing into this one.

The story starts at a slow pace but it soon picks up speed, and from them onwards there is plenty of action and not a moment of boredom. The characters are quite interesting, although not fully developed. The key points in this book are the action and setting the story takes place in. There is also some humor and a bit of romance.

Steve Wannall did a fantastic job narrating this book and keeping my attention. His characters interpretations are simply amazing. The only thing that cold have been a bit better were the female voices, but since most of the characters are male, it didn’t disturb me.

A very entertaining book, but make sure that you listen first to book one.

A Steampunk History of Cochise County

Author pd mac's strong sense of humor is clearly evident in this steampunk western featuring zombies and a bit of romance. Cochise County, Arizona Territory, is explored from the Dragoons (the mountain chain in which Cochise hid out) to iconic Tombstone to that booming copper town, Bisbee, with side trips to a few other landmarks and, oh, yeah, that California city, San Francisco. As expertly narrated by Steve Wannall, I was thoroughly captivated and entertained.

A Good Listen

This one started a bit slow, but picked up and became a nice steampunk western. I liked the sparing use of steampunk instead of the overpowering take that many authors use. I think my favorite characters were to the Indian engineers. The take on the neighboring mountains was very creative as well and I really enjoyed the "against the odds struggle" as well as the MC not having to be the one that gets all the wins. It was narrated excellently by Steve Wannall.

All in all, it was an excellent listen.

Enjoyable Steampunk Western

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was pretty entertaining, just as the previous book about Marshal Sadler. It is mostly a western with some steampunk and paranormal elements thrown in. All in all, it is definitely entertaining and worth checking out if you like this sort of story.

Another great tale of Marshal Sadler!

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the narrator or author.

I can’t help but to think that we haven’t heard the end of Mason Sadler, or atleast I hope not.
The book was action packed from beginning to end. The author does a great job of setting the scenes. If youve ever been to Arizona the descriptions are spot on. You can visualize the entire book.
The story was entertaining with a few unexpected twists that will have you shaking your head.
The narrator was also great. His characters were distinctive, his accents were almost perfect, and very understandable.

I hope there’s a third! Maybe Sadler will get all of the worthington money by some twist of fate???
