A good start

This is a good first book. It introduces the world quite nicely, and the characters are interesting. I would have given this 5 stars all the way around, but I did find one thing that made it hard for me as a listener. Everything is told third person but in present tense. For example: He lifts the hammer, he heals the boy, he eats the food. My ears are preset to hear this spoken in first person, i.e I lift the spoon to my mought, or he grabs the book from my hands, or in third person past tense, he lifted the hammer, he healed the boy, he ate the food, etc. So it took me awhile to get over it and just settle into the story.

Martin is an interesting narrator, his voice conveys a lot of emotion effortlessly. Wong weaves an interesting tale, which keeps your attention. I just wish he picked a different way to tell his tale, but I have to say that once I got over it I wasn't sorry I stayed to listen. Get this book and give'er a listen!

Great Story

Great world building. Even better character development. I love the concepts regarding the gifts. The narrator threw me off at times when he would describe damage ranges as "Three minus Seven" instead of "Three to Seven". Regardless, I really enjoyed this book. Can't wait for the second on to come out in audiobook format.

an enjoyable series

I found out about Tao Wong from his other series, but that series was out of new content so I checked out this series. I love the flaw in the character it's so awful. but still he uses it to save himself and his friends and sometimes strangers. There's a couple other books in this series and I'd suggest checking those out as well if you like magic, adventure, and a world with game mechanics.

A meek attempt to create a story

I feel like there should be another book before this to explain more and find the story lacking a goal besides leveling up.
The narrator did a an okay job but didn’t feel much enthusiasm in him reading just like me in not caring about the story.
The book has a neat idea with the dungeons and world but falls short in delivering meaningful storyline. Characters are weak and the repetitive stat telling I had to skip as it was pointless to hear.

I wouldn’t suggest this book and regret buying it

Kinda bland, sorry!

Would you try another book from Tao Wong and/or Eric Martin?

I would probably try another of Tao's books if he had another series of books but this one is just a little too generic for me. Eric does a good job narrating the voices I have no real complaints about it but I can't say it's the best I've ever heard.

What was most disappointing about Tao Wong’s story?

I read plenty of reviews and people were talking about how well built the world of the story was, maybe this happens more in the other two books but I still don't feel like I know anything about the world this is featured in other than towns occasionally form around dungeons, miners exist and the world works like a video game for reasons.

What three words best describe Eric Martin’s performance?

good enough dude

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Indifference

Any additional comments?

The main characters motive to be an adventurer is to be an adventurer, not the best adventurer, or to become a great healer, or to save the world, it's just I want to exist and while I do that how about I be an adventurer.

meh

This book seemed very short. It was mildly interesting LitRPG, but the story really didn't progress. Not worth the credit I paid for it.

I really enjoyed this book.

I will say this is now one of my favorites now. My only problem is that it is a bit short.
