Publisher's Summary

Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hel. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It's a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won't hesitate to execute her on sight.
But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance.

Can't Wait for the Next One!!!!

I was really impressed with this debut novel. It's a really great paranormal/urban fantasy story and I can't wait for the next one to be released on audible. In this series, the main protagonist is a demon, but she's not as evil as most literary demons are. She's struggling to live a normal human life, while causing just enough mischief to keep her the boredom at bay and staying under the radar of the angels that police the human world.

This book had some pretty funny moments and I found myself laughing out loud. It reminded me of the Charlie Daniels series, and if you like those books I think you'll really enjoy this one. I highly recommend it.

excellent new author /series

I got the book based on an audible customer service recommendation and I'm glad I took the chance. I love the irreverence of the heroine and the twist on preconceived good vs. Bad.
Performance was a bit frustrating at first, but soon got used to it.
The blurb already gives you an idea of the content (which I don't think did the book much justice!) But I would add: prepare for an amazingly good journey. Already looking to get the next book (TGIF!)

Needs a re-write

The Good

The premise for this story is great. It is a common theme of a demon/devil from hell in human disguise living in the world.

The Bad

This story read like a first draft basic manuscript. As if the writer has just puked their basic story outline down and then published it with no editor etc going over it. Everything from the writing, the plot, logic of the events needs to revisited and re-written.

As the story proceeds, I got more and more annoyed with the plot-holes and the logical inconsistencies. Also just how powerful is the main character? First she's just an imp, a bit of a nobody then she's some lord and wielding huge amounts of power. How strong/weak are the angles? First they could destroy her with barely an effort next she's trading blows with the strongest of them. These things occur for no apparent reason. The writer simply changed the nature of the character part way though the story and didn't bother to go to the beginning and re-write.

The demon's age does not work for the story. First she's 1000 years old - which we are told is young for a demon but if you were a thousand year's old, you'd would behave like a creature 1000 years old not 14.

The prose is technically poor, partially as a result of the unfinished state of the book and partially because the writer has poor skill.

Too lurid, every male character either wants to kill or have sex with her or both.

Poor use of swear words. I'm not averse to swears in books but they need to be used well or realistically or they loose their point. The use of profanity here diminishes the quality of the story rather than elevating it.

The Narrator

Terrible from the outset. Not so bad if you speed it up but not good either. Sounds like this is the first time that this narrator has read anything out loud.

Someone needs to take this book idea, develop the mythos behind it, do some decent world, character, and plot building and write a decent story. The author has turned a potential master-piece idea into a terrible soap opera.

Decent book dreadful narration

What did you like best about A Demon Bound? What did you like least?

I really liked the original storyline in particular the main character Sam
I really disliked the performance of the narrator who did her best to ruin the book with the worst narration I have ever heard.

How could the performance have been better?

It couldnt be any worse - - but reading without misplaced pauses, differentiating between different voices and putting some expression into the narration would be a good start

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Any additional comments?

worth sticking with it - its really quite amusing and has a good original storyline and if you can stick it out the second book in the series is even better - even the narration though not great is much better

Needs better narrator

Would you be willing to try another book from Debra Dunbar? Why or why not?

Was a good start to this series. Samantha was a great naughty character, but would read the book next in the series instead of audio book if has same narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Rysk’s performances?

I would be cautious based on this book. Narration was slow & monotone in parts. Had to speed it up just to make the narration bearable.

Unique voice for a different story

An enjoyable plot with an imp as the heroine? Different and well written. The major character demonstrates the desire for the wrong behaviour but has allowed her nature to be harnessed to remain living on Earth.
The reader has a voice that is very well suited to the character and is reasonably good at differentiating her characters.
The writing is and plot line is quite good.
