Publisher's summary

Revenger is a rocket-fueled tale of space pirates, buried treasure, and phantom weapons, of unspeakable hazards and single-minded heroism...and of vengeance...

Adrana and Fura Ness are the newest crew members of the legendary Captain Rackamore's ship, using their mysterious powers as Bone Readers to find clues about their next score. But there might be more waiting for them in space than adventure and fortune: The fabled and feared Bosa Sennen, in particular.

The galaxy is filled with treasures...if you have the courage to find them.

Apocalyptic Cyberpunk world!

Alastair builds an amazing world in Revenger with a deep history and lots of mysteries. Millions of years in the future, humans are an old race clinging to the surfaces of enourmouse space habitats they do not understand. Primitive ships called Sunjammers use tattered solar sails to sail from world to world - and some even raid abandoned worlds for ancient technology.

The plot was very simple, thats my only complaint - it really felt like young adult fiction.

OMG the audio was horrible!

Whoever performed the post production audio needs to have their ears checked. At times it's like someone was twisting the volume knob up and down; such inconsistent levels! Then it's the narrator and her voice, which trails off at the end of each sentence so that you can't hear the last few words. Performance of itself was good to great, so I blame post edit for my issues with the production.

Great and original.

I really enjoyed this book. the audio quality is great despite other reviewers comments. The world that it is built in is truly unique. Somewhat of a mad Max in space.

A fabulous read, and I am really very picky.
Also am an Alastair Reynolds fan.

Vocals have too much bass!

I’m enjoying the story, and Clare Corbett’s narration is great. Her pace, inflections for various characters etc, all perfectly good IMO. However, I’m having to rewind so often and listen again because the bass in the vocals make it too difficult to hear. I’ve tried 3 pairs of headphones, I’ve tried to use equalizer apps to bring the base down, nothing is really working for me though. I normally just use my Gen 2 AirPods and have no problems. I listen to over a dozen titles a year, I’m pretty familiar with typical fidelity from Audible. Seems like someone at Audible forgot to clean up the her vocals, compress etc. Please Audible, remaster this and update the audiobook!

Story is Great

But the changes in volume made parts of it inaudible. Much of the time I was straining to hear it. I would recommend you listen to this book only when you are in a quiet place. Audible should get this fixed.

Other than that, I would have given it 5 stars.

Creative Genius

Started with Revelation Space... that was my 1st book of his. Revenge was a good follow up, and Shadow Captain was super. highly recommend.

He is a creative genius

Alistair Reynolds is a master story teller. While this is not his best work, it is still a good story with a fascinating universe. My only issue is the ending seemed to wander around until running out of things to say rather than a clean, strong finish. The lady performing the story did a good job, easy to follow her characterizations.

Okay...

I should have looked before purchasing, thought this would take place in the revelation space universe. It's not a bad story, but definitely geared toward a younger audience. My main complaint is that the narrator would occasionally speak so quietly, I couldn't understand what she was saying, even at full volume (not recommended). I don't know how many listening environments have 0% noise pollution, I would guess not many, so if you get this book, use noise canceling headphones.
