Publisher's summary

Serena has a bright future etched in stone. Tristan has a dark past that haunts him. Together, they have a love that can never be.

Sheltered, and unable to escape her bloodline, Serena St. Michael has spent the last two years training at the Royal Protector Academy. Struggling with a dark past, Tristan Gallagher's current assignment is to protect a lifetime of secrets. One chance encounter will change everything. Serena must decide if she will follow her heart, forsaking all she's ever known and risking a future worse than non-existence. Tristan will break every rule to save Serena, even if he can't keep her. In their world of darkness, one love will ignite an ancient war. When pasts collide with the present and secrets are revealed, will love be enough? Or will one lie destroy it all? When you've hidden behind a mask for so long, would you reveal yourself for love?

Vernal is the first novel in The Royal Protector Academy series. A dangerously exciting and darkly romantic tale that will take your breath away. It can be heard as a standalone trilogy, or after the best-selling Revelation Series. Intended for mature listeners 18+ due to language, mild violence, and sexual situations.

Great read!

What did you love best about Vernal?

Vernal is an easy, enjoyable read. Though it has an otherworldly premise, the story doesn’t focus much on that and instead focuses on the ‘forbidden love’ budding relationship between Tristan and Serena. The author had me seriously rooting for the two of them, despite a huge plot twist that I did NOT see coming (nice work!). I also really enjoyed many of the secondary characters in this book.

Any additional comments?

My only complaint is that while Vernal is listed as book #1 in a series, it doesn’t do a great job introducing its world and characters. Apparently, there’s another series (Revelation) that’s helpful to read first, so maybe that’s why initially I was somewhat confused in this book. Despite that - great book and I look forward to reading book #2 to see what becomes of Tristan and Serena.

Serena and Tristan's story is amazing!

These narrators were completely right for this story. It never gets easier to hear certain parts that break my heart . I can't wait for more of Tristan and Serena's story. Vernal was an amazing read!

Um...what?

Ok. First 5 minutes and I'm already annoyed. She sounds like one of those Nickelodeon actors who over enunciate everything. It has a juvenile title and synopsis yet it dives right into what sounds like an X rated book?
Two stars instead of one because it was cheap and I have heard worse so...

Vernal

I loved the story but the voice acting was a little off for me. Now this is a new to me author, as well as the voice actors, but I think it could have sounded a little bit better to fit the story. I may skip this series in audio but definitely picking it up in book.

YES! Get this book! Sexy, funny, romantic!

What a fun book! Just what you need if you are all caught up on the Armentrout and Maas books . The heroine is strong , smart, and funny. The hero is strong , smart, and funny. They are equally matched which makes for entertaining dialogue and fire in the sheets. The readers voices are perfect. Great voice acting!

Excellent and again, I'll say excellent!!

This is such a sweet but forbidden love story that will make you sigh but with lots of laughter. Many lol moments for me. To me, this was better than Restraint series. Also, the narrator's was fantastic!

Like nails on a chalkboard!

Ok, so first the female narrator needed some work. Her voice was killing me. She was ok until she did Serena's voice, it was definitely like nails on a chalkboard. Sounded like she was a screeching little girl, whining her way through life.
Second, Serenas character is just terrible. She's a spoiled little whiny girl who has absolutely no charm or redeeming qualities at all. She's supposed to be 20? Ummmmm no, more like 13. And despite her non existent personality and the non existent conversations with Tristian, he somehow falls madly in love with her? Why? Because she's good in bed? Is that a reason to start a war?
So the combination of the screeching god awful narrator and the terrible Serena character, almost had me quitting this book in the middle. But I am not a quitter and finished the book. It's not worth it, don't waste your credit.

This book wasn’t great to begin with, but the narrator killed it.

Awful narrator. Had to switch to an ebook version about 50% through because I just couldn’t take it anymore. The story wasn’t particularly good either - the heroine comes off like a spoiled sorority girl that the male lead, inexplicably, instantly falls in love with. I wasn’t convinced of that, and certainly not that she’s royalty who will soon be responsible for leading an entire race. Meh.

You know...I tried!

What did you like best about Vernal? What did you like least?

The male narrator, jezz just no good. And the Irish accents, lordy it was painful to listen to.

Narration ruins the story:(

I’ve listened to the Revelation series three times which I️ LOVED. However this book just left me feeling disappointed. The story felt rushed and the narration ruined the book for me.
