Publisher's Summary

He was my best friend, my best not-really-big-brother and my best protector. He was my best everything. He was mine.
Coming home is hard for Lane. Hard because Harry, her beloved uncle, has died suddenly, but also because of him. Kale.
Kale Hunt has been her best friend since childhood. But it was never that simple. He was Lane's reason for leaving home and moving to New York. Seeing him with someone else, in love with someone else, shouldn't have hurt. But it did. It really, really did. So she upped sticks and left, started a new life and cut herself off from her past.
But now she's back and all the feelings are right there. As if she had never left.
Emotions are running high for everyone, and tragedy has a funny way of bringing people together. But is Lane reading the signs right? Are they still just friends, or is there something more?

This book has gutted me in all the right ways; I don’t know I think I am going to have to just get my thoughts down. Then come back and makes sense of them so if something doesn’t make sense bear with me. ( I hope I made sense )

We deal with a lot of heavy issues in this book but not in an omg horribly upsetting way, but in a way that’s like life. And sometime fiction has to have a little reality.

Lane and Kale have been the best of friends from the time they were young. Lane has twin older brothers who are Kale's age, but Kale has always been Lane’s best friend.
Grown up he protected her like a brother would and that started to get a little weird for Lane when her feelings toward Kale were not brotherly.

“He was my best friend, my best not-really-big-brother, and my best protector.”

This book goes back and forth from younger times to older times. For me I am never a fan of that but the way this book is done it was perfect.
Now in her early 20’s she doesn’t live in England she had to get away after circumstances. She lives in New York as an editor. It’s her dream job, her love of books became her career.

But she was forced to come back home after some tragic news. And now she is forced to deal with the past and everything it brings.

“Being here is really difficult.”
“I know, honey, but deep down you knew you couldn’t stay away forever.”

The sorrow and heart ache. If you don’t know me, I am a huge softy, and this book had the tears a flowing. Not everyone will but I am just that kind of girl I cry… a lot. Ha. But this book is just so dang brilliant I can’t be mad with the tears because the last chapter.. Oh the last chapter..

But it’s also a book of hope and love and life and it’s just an all-round wonderful read. I don’t think this book is going to let me go for a long time. I feel like parts of it are going to pop in to my head from time to time and I am very ok with that.

'Kale was my best friend in the whole wide world
He was always the one to take my tears away and put a smile on my face.'

I also got the upgrade to audio best choice I ever made, not only does the narrator bring this story the emotion it deserves, her accent is aces. Especially because of the setting of the book. I will defiantly be looking in to more audio from this narrator.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion and I am allowed to have it.*

Not your typical romance

This story is compelling. It has sweet and tender as well as traumatic and emotionally distressing. I liked the characters and the narration was great. The various accents were well done imo.

My only complaint is that there was just way too much time in the past dealing with backstory. I don't really enjoy stories that go back and forth between past and present and this one does. Mostly it's in the present. I would have preferred to spend more time with the main characters getting to know each other again and resolving the past.

Many good things about this one
