Publisher's summary

A volunteer with the Maui search and rescue team, Greg Braxton is training his greyhound, Dodger, when he finds an unconscious woman in a car at the bottom of a cliff. When she awakens, she doesn't know who she is or what she was doing stranded in the middle of a raging storm. She has the face of an angel but was found dressed in tawdry clothing, wearing a dead woman's shoe. Is she an innocent victim, or a cunning criminal hiding behind amnesia? Greg takes to calling her Lucky because she's lucky to be alive. With the law closing in, Lucky and Greg must discover her true identity before someone else - someone obsessed with her - finds her first.

1996 Classic Core Romance Mystery

I purchase this book in 1996, and it's even better now on audio at 1.2 x speed on sale now. Do not miss Tempting fate another classic by this author. In the 90s many authors would Write a book and research it the old fashion way. This is one of them. The details of the Islands in this novel are so spot on they remind you of the Hawaiian Island magic you may have had if you were fortunate to visit. The mystery again is a classic of the '90s
l only wish author had The Hideaway recored as it Starts out "the wolf was at the door".
were my comments of help?

Great Story!

Two wounded hearts meet in a story with a hero, a good twisty mystery, surprises, and love. Fun animals play great supporting roles including a search and rescue dog, a baby shark and seal. The setting in Hawaii also adds character. I’ve read this and found the narrator to be very good so that it added quality to the tale. Thank you Meryl Sawyer!

Too sexual and raunchy

I was hoping for a great adventure story on Maui....what's not to like with a SAR dog and handler involved on the great beautiful island, right? Well right away there is very inappropriate sexual encounter in the tent. Before long there is another episode in Kmart! I couldn't get through it. Too bad the author ruined the story line with all this raunchiness. I had to return the book. Don't waste a credit on it.

I would read this books by this author again

This book had some sappy parts. However, it held my attention, I listened to it in one day (while home sick).

Needs Works

I found listening to Unforgettable very frustrating. Parts of the plot and some characters were engrossing, while other parts were cliché and convoluted. Then I realized that the book is more than 20 years old, when perhaps the author was new to writing.

Since the setting & plot had such potential and the author is obviously talented, I wish she would have revised this novel before it was turned into an audiobook. I loved Dodger (search & rescue dog), and the orphaned baby seal but had a hard time caring about a wounded shark - I kept hearing the theme song for JAWS in my head.

I also had a hard time relating to the main characters: Lucky with her miraculous personality transformation after a brain injury and Greg's judgmental attitude about Lucky's "slutty" appearance. This from a man who only had casual sex with tourists, because he didn't trust women due to his late, unfaithful wife.

With a little revision and editing work, this could have been a fascinating book...
