Investigative reporter Christy Madaris doesn't want to complicate her life with romance. She made that mistake once when she believed Alex Maxwell's promise to marry her. True, Alex made that promise when Christy was just a teenager. But she believed him with all her heart - and when Alex laughed it off years later, Christy was crushed.
A promise broken....
The owner of his own PI firm, Alex refuses to compromise everything he's worked for to honor a silly promise. Christy should have known he was only teasing, right? But when Alex finally sees Christy again, he knows he made a big mistake. She has grown up into a smart and stunning woman - and Alex can't get her off his mind.
A love they can't forget....
When Christy's latest story takes a dark turn, the Madaris brothers ask Alex to keep her safe. But putting Alex in charge of Christy is like putting a rooster in charge of the hen house! The more she snubs him, the more he wants her. But when Christy's life is in danger, can Alex save her before it's too late?

Very slow and long
It was a struggle to finish this book. The story was okay however be constant reminders of why they felt what they felt the mentioning of all the family members their mates their kids and how they met drag the story on. It was hard to stay with the story. I normally use this when I am working out to help me power through and not think about walking on the treadmill however several times I found myself drifting away from the story trying to find anything else to think about because the story drag on and on and it was very boring in some spots. I think the story was 5 hours too long it could have been a very good book without the repetition. The narrator felt like he was acting out the part too much drama and too slow emphasizing certain parts felt weird listening to him. I have liked books by this author' in the past however reading this one I'm kind of cautious about reading any future books of hers.

Finally Alex and Christy become one!
I waited for such a long time between reading their story and listening to Pete Ohms recite their story that I find myself returning to their story over and over in case there are some nuances I missed the first time. All in all, I am a complete fan of all of Mrs. Jackson's novels, novellas even the book outlining which book came first. I have been a fan of Alex and Christy since their first introduction in I believe Justin and Loren's story when she was a wide eyed teen professing that Alex was her Alexander the great! Great story thanks to the author and to the narrator for such an enjoyable listening experience.
