Ien Montgomery wants nothing more than to find love and compose music - something impossible under the weight of his family's expectations. When he meets a beautiful violin prodigy, Kiera McDougal, he is certain he has found his one true love. With her, he imagines a future outside of his parents' control. That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart.
Disfigured and abandoned, Ien thinks of nothing but returning to Kiera and exacting revenge on the people who ruined his life - his parents. But vengeance is empty. Betrayed by those closest to him, Ien discovers that the price for his happiness may be his sanity.

Longing, Love, filled with Dark Despair..
Ien is a musician, who only wants to play music, and marry Keira.
His parents don't approve of this match, so he asks Keira to marry him against his parent's wishes.
On his way home from proposing, Ien is involved in an accident that leaves him with severe burns.
After months of medicine, Ien's parents decide that he will never recover, so they stage a fake funeral, and send him off to a sanitarium.
Over half of this book was set in Ien's mind and its descent into insanity which was very unsettling.
I was uncomfortable reading this book to say the least.
The Story Line had several Twists that are not for the Faint of Heart..
The author did really well with character development and the pacing.
She is a talented writer and the story captured my attention from start to finish.
However, I was surprised by the ending because it was a bit confusing and vague.
Is Ien's mother really trying to kill him?
Or.. is everything just in his head?
Will Ien ever be reunited with Keira?
Or.. is everything just in his head??
Ian Gordon did really well with the narration.

The Mind is a Powerful thing!
The actual story was very interesting, the narrators voice gave you a whole new experience.
I enjoyed how the story played out. There were plenty of twists. Parts of the story I was not expecting.
I had not listened to Ian Gordon before now. He gave this story a whole new experience!
This was a rather longer book than my previous audio books. When I got past the first parts of the book, I couldn't help but want to hear what was going to happen next.
Christine Fonseca and Ian Gordon did a wonderful job as Author and Narrator.
