At Last Ulriks Story!

Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed that after 13 books & 3 Novellas, The reader is no closer to finding out which King is Rhie's or Rhie's !!(Since At book8 or 9 they changed the way it's pronounced.SMH. At least w Ulriks Story, it has been a (long time coming but) there was a building anticipation for him to finally get his life back on track w His TRUE MATE Eilish whom until just recently was brought into the story at end of book 11,and caught on camera talking w Michael & him asking her to kill Ulrik & Con. Only described as Druid Beauty w/ a Silver ring that ran from her 2nd knuckle to sharp nail like tips on her last 3 fingers & Mocha skin ,who truly did not know Ulrik until book 12. (Where She was starting to find out more of how big of a liar & Jerk Michael really was). Which is All relevant(I say this because of I only read reviews & knew nothing about the story line of other Kings & their mates and decided to start reading this book I would be very confused) so as You will find as You get swept away in this Story, please keep that in mind. Ulriks magic was particularly unlocked from a different Druid, which if you go back a few books, well that's where you will find out the whole truth of it & how the magic binding ALL Kings from falling in Love was broken as well.

Other than the fact that I am annoyed with the Rhie's story line, this was a really and truly well written story. I like to think that DG actually listens to the desires of her readers , because there are several times in this Series that I have found myself LOL ,crying, feeling a bit flush in the steamy parts & even talking to the evil /bad ppl in the story like (that's what you get). But never more than in this most recent book. Ok if it's bcuz a more lighter/likable side of Ulriks personality showed more or if it was that Michael got what He deserved or Mrs.Queen of the Light Fae was knocked down a leg or if it was just the combination of it all but I finished this book feeling like I knew a lot more about quite a few characters then any of the books in this Series this far.
I hope that I am not left wanting & waiting for something more than "Him" to be said of Rhie's King in the next book to drop. For as much as She is always trying to help her Friends, she sure gets the Sh*t end of the stick A Lot . Don't think I will buy another one from the series of so. You can only stretch something like that out for so long. Even if it's just to have her give him a hard time. A sad Rhie, who isn't even sassy...just not the same.

He was only pretending to be bad …?!

I thought I was in the mood for the suspend disbelief romance tropes. I thought by jumping ahead to the book where the bad dragon gets redeemed that the author’s formulas would’ve been shaken up and refreshed. I was wrong. Once again the grouchy dragon is “shaken to the core” by the feisty white girl, with the same formula … as soon as the author throws in a couple of nonsense explanations as to why Ulrik and Ellish aren’t really bad people.

Clearly, I was not able to go with the idea that Ulrik, who schemed for centuries to destroy King Con (seriously) and mankind, and has spent the previous books setting up elaborate traps … yet in reality made sure that the ladies and dragons wouldn’t actually be harmed and had ways to escape from said traps. You’ve got to be kidding me.

If the romance, or the sex, or the plot upped its game at all, I could have rolled with the eyerolls.
But, ugh, the cheese.
He’s the guy prophesied to kill her. She’s the one Michael sent to kill him.
Yet the insta lust still kicks in from go.

For the uninitiated, let me set the formula: H/h meet to discuss business, or as rivals, and cue lusting:
“My god he was breathtaking, totally hot, and mouthwatering … she bit her lip as she gazed at his impeccable a$$ and muscular legs.”

H/h are fighting, then he rips her tank top and pants off. Yes, seriously.
Cue “I can’t wait, I need you inside me” cringe. Yes, seriously.

“He was more, so much more, more gorgeous, more dangerous, more mysterious and more mesmerizing.” Seriously?! And to think, I bought one more of these at the last sale.

Great read and pretty bad and listen..

Wow! I just finished Ulrik’s story and I’m so, so happy. Through all the 12 books I’ve always rooted for Ulrik. I never wanted him to be totally bad, never wanted him to do anything unforgivable. However, I was surprised to see who his love-interest is. She was one I thought was totally going to be bad. But, surprise!

And, jeez, I was surprised to hear what Ulrik’s special kind of magic was. I wondered how he’d saved Lily several books back but now I know. It’s awesome. I’m so glad Ulrik got his HEA.

Again it was so nice seeing so much of Rhi and Constantine in this book. And it’s almost past time for them to take care of Usaeil, the Fae Queen, who’s been a piece of crap for the past few books.

There was explicit sex in this, a couple of times, and the F-bomb was used 16 times.

As to the narration: Sometimes I can stand Antony Ferguson but sometimes I can’t. This was a can’t time. His women’s voices were just bad and when he did try to speak as a woman there is not an ounce of emotion in his voice and he still sounded too manly, making the conversation totally ridiculous.

another incredible book by Donna Grant

Donna Grant is the queen of supernatural romance and she doesn't disappoint with Torched. The Dragon King series is one of my favorites. somehow Donna has kept the series from becoming redundant, instead each book continues the main storylines while going further in depth with a different Dragon King. highly recommend this book and series

Finally Ulrik's Story!

Torched by Donna Grant is the newest in the Dark Kings series. Torched centers on the Dragon King of the Silvers, Ulrik, who was stripped of his powers and banished from the rest of his Dragon King brethren long ago. Reading Torched as a stand-alone is possible, but with the background interactions involving Ulrik throughout the series, I would not recommend it. Ulrik has been evolving throughout the past several books, leading him to a place in Torched where he can take on his enemies, and possibly find a purpose beyond his need for vengeance.

I have long awaited Ulrik's story. I enjoy a protagonist that struggles with their darkness within and needs a good redemption. Ulrik is one of these characters. Ulrik has been seeking revenge against the Dragon King of Kings Con, even though Con had his reasons for causing Ulrik's centuries of solitude without his magical essence. In Torched Ulrik allows himself to act on his feelings for the Druid Eilish who is responsible for unlocking his magic. In allowing himself to feel something other than hatred Ulrik finds some peace and reassesses what he wants from his future. The series has shown the bond between Con and Ulrik remained and Ulrik finally admits to himself that it sucks to stay murderously angry with your best friend.

My final assessment is this installment of the Dark Kings series is well worth reading. I read about the Dragon Kings for its urban fantasy elements and the massive subplots that have been developing as far back as the Dark Sword series with the Dangerous Highlander. I love interconnecting plot lines, and the overall narrative is continuing to advance toward its apex. I am eager for its conclusion. The characters in the Dark World are a family with deep emotional ties. They care for and keep each other safe. It is satisfying to see one of their central exiled characters has found a way to become part of that family again. The paranormal romance aspect is just as good as it always is. Admittedly Ulrik is my type of alpha male, so I had no problems engaging in the passion between Ulrik and Eilish. There were a few moments I felt the lack of an emotional bond between them but came to the decision that could have to do with Ulrik's state of mind. All opinions are mine and may not be identical to others. I urge all readers to come to their own conclusions.

Best of the series

Many issues were wrapped up and problems solved in this book as new problems, enemies and alies arise. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
