The time invested....

At the young age of 12, Kaydee Harrison wanted an adventure, to dream of far off places, and a pen pal seemed the perfect way to do that. She started writing to a girl in England only to have her address passed on to a boy named Duncan, and that moment changed her life. Ten years later, sharing thoughts and dreams through pen and paper has brought them closer than ever. When Duncan sends Kaydee a scarf for her 22nd birthday and a card expressing his love for her, she's happy but her hopes are shattered when he mentions his grade school friend Mara has come to visit him at Oxford. Is she really just a friend? Unexpected jealousy torments her thoughts.

The chance taken....

With her father's health failing and pressure mounting to run the family business, she needs to escape. Kaydee finds herself on a plane to see if the fantasy of Duncan can be turned into a reality. Could this one chance at love change her life? Or will it be the one decision that tears their friendship apart?

Cute Story!

This was a cute short story of pen pals whose relationship deepened into love as they got to know each other over the years. Even though they lived continents apart. The narration was ok. The characters were adorable.

Sweet long-distance, life-long love story

I was very fortunate to be able to listen to this audiobook for free as an ARC from the author. And I'm so glad! I really enjoyed the audiobook. It was a sweet story about Kaydee in Florida and Duncan in England who started out as pen-pals when they were just 12 years old. After writing to each other for over ten years, they were about as close as they could be. Both having undisclosed feelings for the other. Finally, when both were finishing up their college careers, Kaydee becomes a little jealous over Duncan's long term relationship with Mara, she decides to take a chance and travel to England to actually meet Duncan face to face.
There are some unexpected twists to her visit, of course some jealousy over Mara, some laughs, some tears and lots of super sweet, swoon-worthy moments. But life gets in the way and of course, Kaydee has to return home to the USA. So how will they deal with their relationship going forward?
Love the ending!! (But no spoilers!)
Lisa did a really nice job with the narration! I was quite impressed. She was very expressive and emotive with the characters' feelings. It just felt real and I was very pleased with the book overall.

2.5 Stars

I received an audio review copy of this book via GoodReads from the author and I have to say the synopsis hooked me in. I loved the idea of pen pals from across the pond meeting and falling in love etc etc. The reality wasn’t quite as idealistic for me. I didn't really feel any passion between Kaydee or Duncan, I never felt invested in either of them as individuals either. Duncan came across as a completely pompous Brit and Kaydee didn't seem to have any backbone. Some of the references weren't correctly researched in my mind, examples being the implication that royalty attend Saturday night Theatre quite often, I go to the Theatre in London a LOT and not once have I seen royalty, it is not common practice. There was also a comment made by Duncan that he had set a cot up in his room to sleep on. I know that this is a common term in America, however a cot in the U.K. is used for babies to sleep in. It is not a word that a Brit would ever use. I know I'm being picky and I apologise, but these sort of things really niggle at me. The narrator worked well with the accents (again though I am not a fan of the whole plum in the mouth British accent, maybe that's a personal thing, I'm a Brit and I don't come across that accent often). The book as a whole didn't work for me I'm afraid.

Cute but fluffy

Would you try another book from Lori Ann Gerlisky and/or Lisa Zimmerman?

I loved the narrator. She was great at flipping back and forth from American to (all manner of) British accents. That's tough! I'm giving the book extra points for her excellent narration. Absolutely!

Would you recommend Time and Chance to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably not. While I don't consider it a waste of my time, it didn't really do anything to enhance it either. There's just no depth there.

Which character – as performed by Lisa Zimmerman – was your favorite?

The only one we really learn anything significant about is Kaydee so I guess I'll choose her.

Could you see Time and Chance being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Sweet Story!

Well I found this one to be a sweet n nice kind of story. Here Kaydee and Duncan stay thousands of miles apart ... Florida n London! Whoa .... I am new to this Pen pal thing and i really liked the concept. These guys wrote to each other for 10 years and grew up talking to each other ... all of their secrets ... via letters. Wow ... something really interesting. They got to know each other so well that through the written words they actually fell for each other.

Then they finally decide to see each other and understand the extend of their liking towards each other. Everything is quiet fast, sweet and cute.

Cute read

Time and chance is a cute romance about longtime penpals meeting in person for the first time. The story line is interesting and enjoyable. The main characters are easy to connect with. If you are looking for a quick and HEA romance, this is a great choice!

Pen Pal Loves

What did you like best about Time and Chance? What did you like least?

I LOVED this idea of pen pals falling in love, and the great distance between them added just the right amount of angst and tension to the story. The snail mail aspect was heavy with nostalgia for me, which was another plus.

What I liked least were the characters. Duncan was quite unlikable at first. Meeting him in person was like being introduced to a completely different man. He came off as pretentious and inconsiderate at certain moments. Some things he did just didn’t correlate to how he defended himself afterward. Kaydee acted younger than her 22 years of age. On one hand, we see the vulnerabilities and insecurities that a 22 year-old woman may have. On the other hand, Her behavior and thought process came off as a bit too childish for her age. The way she reacted to his friends and certain situations, she just didn’t seem to fully act her age, in my opinion.

Any additional comments?

Naturally, their first encounter, their first couple of days really, were extremely awkward. They had to test each other’s limits, and learn how to physically be in each other’s presence. It was a bit uncomfortable, but also adorable and funny in the best way. The ending was so perfect, cute, and a truly happy ever after. i wish this story had been longer, so that it would’ve been allowed to fully develop and able to expand on a few particular parts.

What disappointed you about Time and Chance?

Long, drawn out, boring........ the narration was terrible. The story did not keep my attention and the characters were ridiculous.
