Publisher's summary

Three nights of passion...

With a turn of the cards, her father is ruined - and innocent Aveline Stoddard is lost. To honor the gambling debt, she agrees to submit for three nights to Lucien DuFeron's every desire, three nights of blistering sensuality and unparalleled ecstasy in the arms of the dashing, dark rogue they call "Lucifer." But the time passes all too quickly...and when the debt is paid, the handsome devil vanishes.

An eternity of desire...

Treachery delivered Lucien into the hands of evil brigands. Now five years after his abduction and imprisonment he has returned to London, searching for the enemy responsible - and finding instead the beauty who still haunts his dreams. Aveline has grown more alluring since those unforgettable nights when she melted beneath his touch. Yet Lucien's need for vengeance must be satisfied. If the trail leads to someone close to Aveline, will it destroy forever the one love powerful enough to free his tormented heart?

Pretty Woman meets Count of Monte Cristo

A surprisingly good listen, especially for free as part of the new Premier Plus package. If you’re hankering for light and frothy regency, go read Julia Quinn. If you want sexy, fun, regency with great banter, go with Tessa Dare (Duchess Deal or Wallflower Wager). But if you’re wanting a darker, meatier regency about a jaded bastard rogue and a spirited innocent willing to do anything to save her gambling addict father, then settle in. Although Tessa Dare is generally more my thing, I ended up liking this couple’s tortured path to their HEA.

The narrator is decent, although she needs to pause more between scene changes, some of her men are annoyingly nasal, and she could use a tad more dynamic emotion (I also listened at 1.3x, which helped). The sex, fairly traditional for the regency genre, happens a bunch in the beginning, and then the story takes over and the book is mostly nooky free until the end. Yes, there are quite a few tropes, including misunderstandings, the “who could love a beast” plot, and the good ole murder/kidnapping attempts to make the couple appreciate their lives. But, these tropes went down surprisingly smooth. I will consider more by this author, especially for free.

fantastic

this was a great book of how people can change for the better and learn from their mistakes. The hero ( which he was not in the beginning) really becomes the man he could be if he has the right woman and is allowed to be a better man
Lucien in the last half of the book is a great hero and proves his love . Both the h/h go through very difficult time to get their HEA and you really see how they gro as people and together.
I was not expecting this to be such a good book, but it has led me to reading more Debra Mullins. A new favorite author.

This was a very exciting and interesting books. I like books where the woman isn't stupid. She held her ground with her husband. The plot was good and too the point.. Very good book

Argh! Good and Bad

Let me begin by stating that the narrator was excellent in voicing the various characters, though there wasn’t any real attention given in bringing the story to life. That may be attributed to the author and the story, itself, and complicated by poor editing. There were several instances in which the timing between sections wasn’t allowed enough silence to indicate a scene change, therefore confusing the listener.

A tired plot device was overused in this story: the inability of the protagonists to communicate with each other. I found myself rolling my eyes several times as the angsty characters worried over (and over and over) issues that should’ve been addressed sooner if only to spare us listeners/readers. Also overused was the plot device of the hardened rake suddenly developing a moral compass or, in the case of this story, becoming incensed by the female protagonist when she is forced to accept her ruination to save her beloved asinine father, then holding it against her in later chapters when she won’t succumb to the suddenly upright but somehow more wronged male. Ugh. Perhaps my frustration with this story has a lot to do with 21st century ideas of feminism, sexual equality and sensibilities.....

Really liked this

As a fan of antique/pawnstore tv this was right up alley. Loved the attraction between the characters. It was well written and performed. I especially liked how her actions were misinterpreted by him. Story was well crafted. May not be on the annual reading list but it was a good escape selection!

Hated to see it end

Really enjoyed this book, loved the characters and the story line and glad that that all created a nice little family.

I struggled with this one

Lucien was VERY unlikable and I had a hard time getting past that for a while.. I considered not finishing the book but I pushed myself. it got better as the story went on, but I still didn't love it.

FANTASTIC

Best book by this author so far!!!
This book is was so good that it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. That's a pretty big accomplishment since we learn of the killers identity about 1/2 way through.

Plus the romance... ooooh swoon! Loved these two characters, so well developed and so very likable. I was pleased to finally see a strong FMC. She was resilient & fearless. What a wonderful couple they made. ...Swooning again... sigh.

Terrific narration too!

Romantic!!

I love the love story. It makes it less tawdry. And the narrator was perfect!
