Publisher's summary

In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast", Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia, with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn't been seen since.

After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher's hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy... that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn't felt in years.

Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other's hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they'll have to decide if the love they found in one another's arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

Beauty and the Best

My heart...

Author Katy Regnery has crushed my heart and then slowly reconfigured it.

This romance between Savanna and Asher is a must read/listen. This storyline of the wounded and disfigured war vet and the town's sweetheart news reporter made me cry.

The narrator, Rose Hudson, did a fantastic job on the narration and between the author and narrator, the donation to the military foundation Operation Mend, and the opening of the eyes to what some veterans had to live with upon return from war...I wish I could give this 50 US Flag stars. Incredible romance.

Book hog

The best book of all since September 2011.
I cried. Laughed. Loved. Greaved.
This book almost tore my heart out. Why?
Because their are partners found after a person thinks live is gone with their injuries. Also love is rediscover when our soldiers come home. Not all wounds are visible. I find it hard to remember their is hope when I spend my time in raged. Worst part I lost no one to the horror. I rage for the people I barely know.

Modern Day Beauty and the Beast

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. While this story took the usual twist and turns as most love stories it does justice to our wounded warriors. I also learned about an organization called "Operation Mend" which I don't think I would have learned about if not for this novel. It was a sweet story and it was obvious the author did her homework in portraying a wounded vet that returned home to a not so welcome return.

What other book might you compare The Vixen and the Vet to and why?

"Beauty and the Beast". Gorgeous woman meets a disfigured man. She sees beyond his disfigurement and they fall in love.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator's real strengths are when she speaks in the voice of the characters. Her careful enunciation made some of the narrative seem somewhat robotic at times. I was not distracted by this.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is not my typical genre of books so I was surprised that I looked forward to get back to listening when I needed to stop.

It was good.

The story held my attention and at least this guy has a damn good reason for being a brooding loner.
