I loved this story about Nalin and Carter. She struggles to be what she desires, both submissive and a suffragette. She finds it difficult to be both. But she finds the perfect husband in Carter!!
This book is a quick listen, but is so good! Amelia Smarts gives the perfect western romance with historical facts of the time. Nalin, a strong willed woman is unable to carry a child for the love of her life Carter. She is looking to fill her life with meaning and becomes involved in the suffrage movement. As you can well imagine, Carter is not happy with this, there is a place for women, and it's not voting. I smile a couple of times when it was mentioned that men are physically stronger than women, like that would be the deciding factor of what differences there are between the sexes, but Amelia Smarts is able to weave this all into the storyline. Carter uses spanking as his way of showing Nalin his love, disciplining her and keeping her to his way. She responds to this and has trouble in her own thoughts of why she would want this from her husband, but is also wanting equal rights for women. This ongoing conflict is well managed and their relationship is you can fall into and watch flourish.
I really enjoyed this book, from beginning to end, the evolution of both Carter and Nalin was fun to listen to with Elliot Daniels giving a beautiful performance. His baritone voice is perfect for the western historical and gives a sense of romance and raw emotion.
