Don't listen in bed if husband is trying to SLEEP!

I can't remember the last time I have laughed so hard to a book. From the train scene on, I was laughing and my poor husband was trying to sleep. Between cracking up and shaking with laughter it was a sleepless night.

Surprised

I love this book it had a great ending and I love the way that the heroine and the hero relationship developed.

Good but drawn out and heroine annoying at times

This review kind of covers the first book as well as this one. For both stories, the heroines are not as likable for different reasons. Claire was too arrogant/stuck up and although I enjoyed Lucy in the first book (maybe because she was still a teenager in the first book), she was just annoying in this book just for being argumentative about everything just because she "didn't trust men" and wanted to be "independent". The thing is I still don't know where her distrust stemmed from as she lived a mostly sheltered life and she was not independent and could barely do anything for herself due to her privileged status which she only realized toward the end of the book. For both books, the heros were more likable and I was mostly rooting for them. Also, both books are more long-winded than necessary. The first book had the overarching plot of the parent's marriage/infidelity and I almost found that more interesting than Daniel and Claire's romance. The same was true of this book, Edith and the vicar's story was more interesting than Lucy and Thomas for me. Almost wish there were separate books for their parents and Ms. E .

Scandalous Spinster!

Story: I always enjoy a Jennifer McQuiston romance and this one did not let me down. Extremely enjoyable, heartwarming and humorous this HEA historical romance is a gem!

Narrator : What an incredible performance by Lana J. Weston!!! I can do nothing but rave about how good she is. When it's hard to believe only one person is doing all those voices than you know you're hearing a artist do their thing.

Heat Factor: Pleasingly warm.....

I could tell you all about Lucy and Tom but don't want to spoil any surprises in this book. Just take my word for it that you won't be disappointed!

One of my favorites of 2015

I LOVED this!!!

Jennifer McQuiston is fabulous. She is one of the authors whose work I pre-order as soon as available. Imagine a scientist writing excellent romances. She is just wonderful

Lucy is at the top of my list of awesome characters. Independent, smart, tomboyish - she's great. And Thomas is a valiant opponent (?) for her. The story is top-notch. The narration of the audiobook is top-notch. This is one my favorites of 2015.

Now the author needs to stop fighting Ebola and write the next book. :-)

Fabulous Hero Who Appreciates Nature

I simply loved this story! What I enjoyed most about this audiobook are the two main characters. Lucy who would rather be reading books and helping out charities than attending balls and talking to young dandies. And Lord Thomas is not your usual aristocrat. He'd rather spend all of his time traversing the craggy hills and dales of Cornwall collecting rocks and plants for the national geographic society. Thomas reminded me a bit of Roger Hamley from Elizabeth Gaskell's Wives and Daughters.

Couldn’t listen anymore

I feel sorry writing this review. I like this new author I have only found recently. But I just couldn’t listen to the story anymore. Lucy acts like a bit of a brat and frankly her insecurities make her mean. I don’t find it romantic to listen to characters berate others continuously. One or two misunderstandings is one thing but by the 4th or 5th I was done. I would return this book if I could. I value my credits. I only wish I hadn’t waited so long to stop listening. Very disappointed.

Irritating heroine: Too stupid to live!

Lucy is one of those heroines who insists on being contrary for the sake of it, and whose stubbornness often lead her into difficult and potentially dangerous situations for no other reason than that she won’t be told what to do by a man - which puts her into the TSTL bracket more often than I would have liked. The novel also is slow and overly long, very little romance until the very end. Not much happening until 2/3 of the way through. There are TOO many supporting characters: Lucy’s family, the butler, the townspeople, random orphan waif children, stray cats….none of which really propel the plot anywhere. It’s tedious and boring. So much time is spent hearing about the people in the village, it detracted from the main couple. Often times Lucy just reads like she is possessed with the ghost of her deceased Aunt, which would have been cool, if it were literally what was written, but really she just seems redundant. Both main characters seem flat and their romance was overshadowed by the story of when the spinster “Aunt E” came to the remote town of Lizard Bay. (That should have been it’s own book, it probably would have been more interesting.) The worst part was that the narrator reads the role of the younger heroine almost in the same intonations as the elderly aunt, making her sound old and irritating. I do NOT recommend this book. Skip it!!!!
