Publisher's summary

I didn't expect to see her again. I didn't expect to want her the way that I do.

I didn't expect to peel back all of her perfectly controlled layers. Or for her to see through mine.

Emma f--king Winchester.

She's the little sister of my ex-best friend, Forrest. She's off limits like tempting forbidden fruit, and I'm the snake slithering through the grass.

She ignites a fire in me. One I can't explain. One I sure as f--k can't control. It's raw and primal.

She's sweet, and I am not.

She's pure, and I'm broken.

When I came back to the town and past I'd left behind 10 years ago to make it big in the world of underground fighting - it was for one reason, and one reason only. To take care of my Grandma Rose, and I'll do it by any means necessary. Even if it means doing the one thing I said I'd never do.

Great Read

The Space Between Us by Alyne Hart was a great read. Dean has always been a bad boy who said he would never go back to his home town. Emma is an aspiring dancer who doesn't steer from the straightened path. She has only ever wanted one person, her brother's ex best friend Dean. I absolutely loved reading this book.

5 star listen

This is a great listen. First I heard from this author and Narrator Logan McAllister. This is a story about second chance romance. Hero is Dean. Heroine is Emma. Emma has had a crush on Dean from her younger years but she thought since Dean was her brothers friend it would be a moot point.
Dean has to take care of his grandmother and he also has to support both of them. He turns to underground fighting (MMA) Emma’s brother is Deans ex friend now and he doesn’t know how to handle the attraction between both of them. Should Emma be off limits

First time I heard from Logan the narrator he was good. Liked how he narrated the story

Good story, narration was tough

I was provided this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this story, but the narration was really difficult for me.

Great purchase!

This book was fantastic! It had the perfect about of heat, romance, drama and suspense. The characters were easy to love and a pleasure to get to know. I could easily see each character warrant their own book as they each have such fascinating personalities, quirks, and life drama. I thought the writing was great, the narration was Solid and the overall experience was positive in all ways. Great read!

Beautiful Possibilities!

Sports, romance, chemistry, hope, pain, self worth, are a few words that describe this book. Alyne Hart is a new author to me. I loved the phrase she wrote that was "I'm not afraid of loving you, I'm afraid of the part where you stop loving me". The insightful views were spot on for this angst-filled second chance romance. I enjoy books where the characters (Emma and Dean) really know each other well for years. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. The performance by Logan McAllister was spot on. He delivers distinguishable voices for the various characters and adds the right emotions. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator in the future.

Another round-up to 3.5 that doesn't quite make 4

I requested and received a copy of The Space Between Us from AudioBoom in return for an honest review. I hadn't been familiar with either the author or the narrator before. In general I enjoyed the book - story and narration - but a few things kept it from a top score. The fight scenes/descriptions were far more graphic than I anticipated, and as Emma herself said a few times in the story, I have trouble with a "hero" who so enjoys inflicting real physical harm on another person. There were also minor unrealistic plot lines, which I know are normal in romance, but which still seem less forgivable in contemporaries (really, how many physically oriented young men would happily spend a week in bed with a young woman selflessly pleasing her and asking nothing in return? - let's get real!! And knowing the dance world, I found the happily-career-ever-after resolution completely improbable). The narrator's voice was a bit too overly aggressive for some of Dean's comments - they were often negative, but if said less harshly one could more easily see them coming from a point of pain. The romance itself was hard-won and rewarding, the family and friends' stories interesting (the author has several spin-offs either available or in the works) and I have no real regrets for the time I spent with the story.

Entertaining second chance romance with some MMA

Listened to the story on Audible. The narration ended up being good. At first, the narrator was going too slowly, but it worked good as the story went on. He had a decent voice for both main characters too.

This is sort of a second chance romance. Emma has had a crush on Dean since she was a little kid, but he was 5 years older than her so he only saw her as a little kid. Dean was her brother's best friend, but they had a falling out when some girl issues arose; Emma's brother hates Dean now. This story takes place 10 years later when Dean returns to town; Emma is 24 now and looking good so Dean is all about her. Dean was the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and ran wild, so he doesn't feel like he deserves someone as good as Emma; Dean has a lot of emotional turmoil from his past that he needs to deal with. Dean fights to help deal with things; he's involved in legit boxing, but he also takes part in some illegal underground MMA fights. Emma is the innocent, blushing constantly, honey/butterscotch/amber eyed ( her eyes are mentioned way too much by the way) beauty, who wants Dean really bad but doesn't want to hurt her brother by being with Dean. She was a bit too much damsel for me; too much crying for me, but she does get a bit better as the story goes on. Dean felt a bit sleazy to me in the beginning, but I could tell how much he cares for Emma; he's pretty sweet with her. The connection between Dean and Emma was wonderful, and they do have good passion between them. Overall, the story was entertaining and the romance was heartfelt. Look forward to reading the next book.

A second chance romance

A second chance, a forbidden love, friends to lovers, can this book hold any more tropes? It has something for everyone to love. Emma Winchester and Dean (do you see a Supernatural reference too?) have a second chance at love but it is one they will have to fight for. Dean is a rough, boxer but has a softer side when it comes to Emma. Emma is a strong woman. She can definitely hold her own. When she sets her eyes on Dean, nothing will stand in her way to get what she wants. I enjoy opposites attract couples. It gives the characters depth.

Logan McAllister was a great Dean. He was able to bring out the roughness to Dean through his gritty voice. His different tones for the characters made the narration easy to follow. Mr. McAllister narrates slower than I prefer, but that was easily fixed. Overall it was an enjoyable narration.
