Publisher's summary

In this intriguing mystery, Jeffrey Sinclair has a thief in his midst. One of his highly sensitive prototypes has gone missing, and he's on a timeline to recover it to avoid bankruptcy. In his search he finds himself in the middle of a deadly game where trust is a luxury he can't afford. The last person to have the devices has been killed and now his only link to the stolen property is the man's widow.

Avery Montgomery is a woman heroes marry and protect for life, and Sin's never been the protecting, hero type - not like her dead husband. When her life is put in danger, Jeffrey strives to keep her safe, while following the twists and turns to uncover the truth before it's too late. Unfortunately, time spent with Avery makes him yearn for the impossible... to be her hero.

a little bit of a slow start...

this book is well written and well performed, but it did have a slow start. I found my mind drifting often so I had to rewind to get get back on track and that usually doesn't happen with me. But, overall, a good story.

Intriguing romantic suspense!

--I was given this audiobook in return for an honest review.

WOW..so many plot twists and whodunnits! I loved this book...from start to finish, the character development made me feel like I knew each character. From Avery to Scottie, this book kept my attention. I especially loved the romance between Sin and Avery..it sizzled from the very start. I also enjoyed the tension between Des and Terri and look forward to their story. I was totally engrossed in the story, at each turn I kept changing my mind of who was the theif, and where were those prototypes? Who is following Avery, what is the Colonel doing, and who is Esperanza really?

Carol Dines delivers a flawless performance, her voice is perfect with each character change.

If you love suspense and romance, this one is for you. Highly recommend it.

Suspence, Romance and Strong Characters!

Would you listen to The Sin Factor again? Why?

Absolutely. The suspence grabs you from the first page and keeps going until the end. The narrator really builds each character and brings them to life.

What other book might you compare The Sin Factor to and why?

I am a big fan of the Kellermans, Faye and Jonathan. Sandy Loyd is also great at building her characters so you want to know them. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Which scene was your favorite?

After the break in at Avery's house, when Sin lets down his guard and you see how strong his feelings for her have become.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Avery realizes it was not her fault that Mike died.

Any additional comments?

Great read! Love the author. Love the narrator. Thanks Audible!

Good, but I'd recommend the book

What did you like best about The Sin Factor? What did you like least?

I thought the story had real potential. Unfortunately, the audiobook had a lot to be desired. The narrator had technical difficulties (gulps, stomach noise, mouse clicks) as well as some narration misses (Scotty character was lost as a comic relief). Overall the story was good. I thought the use of vulgar words was awkward and not necessary.

Would you recommend The Sin Factor to your friends? Why or why not?

No.

What three words best describe Carol Dines’s performance?

She has potential.

Was The Sin Factor worth the listening time?

Sure. Despite the narration difficulties, I wanted to hear the story 'til the end.

"whodunit"

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I would suggest tightening up the book by editing. There were a few (not a lot) of areas when I found my thoughts drifting.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

See above

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Carol Dines Is a good performer. I chose to speed up to 1.5x, I do not think that I would have continued listening if I were not able to speed up. It is just personal preference.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I cannot imagine it being made into a movie, there is just too much material to edit/cut into a 1 to 2 hour movie.

Any additional comments?

There are some graphic intimate scenes that appear over halfway through the book. Those who prefer traditional "innocent" romances may be put off by these scenes. On the other hand, those who prefer more spice may think that these scenes to not go far enough.

Duties, Love or to Compromise

The Sin Factor is an espionage romantic suspense story. Jeffrey Sinclair (Sin) and his two partners are trying to find their prototypes that their company was working on before the prototypes were stolen. The only intel that they have received was that the widow Avery Montgomery is the key to finding their prototypes.

Avery was living with the guilt of sending her husband to his death during a military operation. When someone shot at both Avery and Sin, Sin took it upon himself to protect Avery. Avery didn't believed that she was the one that the shooter wanted but when someone broke into her house, she couldn't decide who she could trust. She didn't know Sin and she couldn't trust the General.

Both Avery and Sin have their own relationship issues to work out. Avery realized that her deceased husband has never loved her and that she was more of hostess than wife to him. Sin has been burned in a marriage of being betrayed by his ex-wife. Sin is more reserved about entering into another relationship when he still have trust issues with the opposite sex. Their attraction to each other is undeniable.

This book has so many twists and turns and characters with unscrupulous backgrounds. The story will lead readers/listeners trying to figure out who is the spy and who does have the prototypes.

The narrator, Carol Dines, does a fine job in narrating the story and providing the voices for the characters in the story. I am looking forward to Avery's sister and Sin's friend/business partner who is an ex-policeman's story and to Carol Dines in narrating their story.

Romantic Suspense Espionage Thriller

Overall this was an exciting fast moving thriller however there were a few unclear areas.

Three guys and a techie who came from the hood form a company and develope a product for the military. The prototype gets stolen and if it is not recovered within a certain time frame the company that developed the product will go bust. Here's my major confusion. What exactly is the product and why is essential that it be recovered by a certain date. Finally towards the end of the book we learn that there was a built in fail safe which will automatically destroy the product by this date. It is never really explained what the product is, however it seems to be some type of communication device as far as I can guess. I would of liked a better explanation of the product and the fail safe could of been revealed far earlier in the story with out spoiling the story.

The person who appears to be the villain isn't really the villain, instead he is a bigoted arrogant snob. When the villain is exposed it is like, "Who the heck is this guy and where did he come from?" Again I would of liked for there to of been more play earlier and through out the novel of the actual villain, rather then the villain popping up towards the end.

There is also a lot of misdirection that keeps one guessing through out the novel. Additionally the book is well performed and narrated.

A Good Story That Felt Disconnected

Avery and Sin are both at the cemetery and someone shoots at one of them. Which one was shot at and who was the shooter? This leads into some twisty suspense but it felt somewhat disconnected and too drawn out. There were places in the book that were tedious and slow which made it hard to keep up with. This was a good story with good characters but needed editing down somewhat.

Carol Dines is a good narrator. I've listened to other work by her but this performance seemed contrived. There were a few places that had long pauses, perhaps an audio issue but she handled it fine.
