Publisher's summary

As far as matrimonial prospects were concerned, Lucy Bliss was told she'd make an excellent clergyman's wife.

Her mother had loftier aspirations, however, for Lucy's lovely younger sister, Belinda. Belinda would marry a duke, more specifically the duke of Wardshire. Lucy was truly horrified. "Lucifer" Wardshire was rumored to be as wicked as the devil, with orgies and mistresses - and worse.

As the London season unfolded, Lucy couldn't decide who was more abominable, her vulgar mama or the arrogant yet disconcertingly handsome duke. But Lucy vowed to go to any lengths to protect her sister, even if her mission should take her into the very arms of the devilish duke himself.

Excellent Story

Story was fun….Narrator needs a bit more polish. Narrator was good, but not yet excellent.

Cute, easy listen.

This is a light, breezy listen. Something to have on while I do my house cleaning for the holidays. The two daughters Lucy and Belinda were sweet and likeable. The hero was divine. I liked the snappy dialogue and the storyline. I really appreciated that in this Chesney novel that there was no evil villain going to do something cruel and stupid to the heroine.. Getting tired of that plot line.

Narration like nails on a chalkboard

I really liked this story. Typical M.C. Beaton. I really liked the idea of him having an AWFUL reputation. But why oh why do they let Charlotte Anne Dore have the job of narrator? She is so so so VERY BAD!!!! If I could have given the performance rating of no stars at all, I would do so every time.

Template story

Young girl "OMG. He does what, in the marriage bed" spends entire story running away. Somewhat smart girls, that are utterly clueless! Interesting, only that they're repeated over and over. Easy listening. I wish the author told, better from the mans point of view. A entire story, such as that. Also, to do a further story of what happens 6 months down the line.
It's always marriage, then THE END .

Narrator didn't do it justice

Charlotte Anne Dore was sometimes flat and stilted and her mispronunciation of certain words ( ie envelope instead of envelop) was distracting at times. Her performance wasn't so bad that I couldn't listen but it lowered this title from a 5 star listen to a 3.5 star listen.
