Editorial reviews

Beth Albright does a wonderful job of writing strong and clever southern women. The Sassy Belles tells the story of two long-time friends, Blake and Viv, as they try to solve the disappearance of Viv's love interest. Performed by Allison McLemore, The Sassy Belles is hard to pause. McLemore's voice acting nails the lyrical quality of southern speech. She is funny and empathetic, the perfect fit for a book filled with moments of true friendship and hilarious antics.

Publisher's summary

Meet the Sassy Belles. They're strong as a mint julep, sweet as peach cobbler, and no matter what, they stick together.

There are only two seasons in Tuscaloosa - football and waiting-for-football. When Lewis Heart, football announcer and voice of the Crimson Tide, vanishes after an impromptu romp with Vivi Ann McFadden at the Fountain Mist Motel, Vivi does what any Southern woman would do: Call her best friend, Blake O'Hara Heart, attorney-at-law.

With the town gossip swirling around them, Vivi and Blake are determined to find out what happened to Lewis and clear Vivi's reputation. Because after all, men may come and go, but the Sassy Belles are forever.

Not since Steel Magnolias have we fallen in love with such sexy, strong and hilarious Southern women. So grab your best girlfriends and join these Belles on the first of many joyrides through the Deep South.

Delightful

Dear fellow readers,

As a rule I never write reviews, but in this case I must make an exception.
Because, this is an exceptional book!

It has brought me laughter, joy and a desire to hear more.
These characters are bright, funny and very southern.
Which I also happen to be.
I can attest to the fact that it is a state of mind, as well as a wonderful place to be!

I hope you all enjoy this book, these lovely and little bit crazy ladies, as much as I have.

Good writing but did not like heroine

What did you love best about The Sassy Belles?

Updated take on the Steel magnolias movie

What other book might you compare The Sassy Belles to and why?

Steel magnolias

Which character – as performed by Allison McLemore – was your favorite?

The grandmother

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did not like Blake. She was immoral and doing adultery and nasty to other characters.

Any additional comments?

I like the third book in this series the most called SleighBelles.

This character is not someone I would be friends with in real life but it is a good series to give a try.

Southern Hilariousness

This story was so sweet, funny, with just enough seduction to keep you entertained and laughing out loud the entire listen. Allison McLemore was the perfect narrator making this such a fun listen.

Fun but a little confusing

This was a fun story of quirky Southern ladies. I enjoyed the narration and the characters.

SPOILER ALERT:
There are lots of inconsistent details which I found odd. Tuscaloosa is a small town. Blake’s husband Harry and his brother supposedly grew up in Tuscaloosa but Blake didn’t meet him until she was in college? Huh?

And it was NEVER explained how or why Lewis “had” to disappear or exactly “how” he managed to find “business partners” in Columbia (presumably not the capital of South Carolina. It was just absolutely bizarre and as the center point of the novel it just seemed ill conceived and incredibly bizarre. But the characters are fun and interesting enough that it was still a good story.

Great Southern Book

Love, love, love this book. The Author has done a great job of making you love the cast. Great performance. As soon as I finished this one I went and downloaded the rest of the series. Unfortunately, the last book in the series is not on Audible.

Ear candy

Delightful audiobook. Narrator Allison McLemore's southern accent is a pleasure to listen to. (She also does a fantastic job with Diana Rowland's White Trash Zombie series, also southern.) She does a great job with all of the characters, even the male ones. The story is a light, fun blend of mystery, romance and women's fiction. Worth the audible credit (and also worth reading in print).
