Publisher's Summary

The first time Thomas MacGowan saw Elizabeth Douglas, he thought that she was a princess. To the son of the castle blacksmith, the daughter of the powerful lord of Douglas might as well have been. Despite their differences in rank, they become inseparable - until Thom confesses his love, and the humiliation of realizing that Elizabeth has never considered him a potential suitor drives him to battle.
Elizabeth is devastated. She never meant to hurt Thom, but her only hope for security is to marry for the betterment of her clan. When the English capture her younger brother, she turns to the quiet, steady former protector who can climb anything. But the merciless, muscled warrior is not the companion she remembers. Though Thom has made it clear that he wants nothing to do with Elizabeth, can he truly refuse the alluring woman who makes his heart race?

The Rock: Highland Guard Series #11

Where does The Rock rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a well written story but its not one of my favorites. I loved the hero, Thom, but I absolutely could not stand Elizabeth's character. She came across to me as a spoiled brat. She wanted Thom in her life on her terms no matter the cost to him. Everytime Thom tried to pull away from Elizabeth she would reel him back in where he thought he might have a chance with her then she would remind him he was beneath her. When he could have married the widow - she ruined that for him. Elizabeth would act jealous and give Thom hope only to crush his love yet again. She was a very selfish person and she didn't deserve Thom at all. He was such a honorable man and tried to do what was right. He worked very hard to get where he was in life. Elizabeth and Jamie, (her brother) kept reminding him he was beneath them. I hated that for him.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rock?

The scene that made me mad was when Elizabeth was in trying to seduce Thom and he was trying so hard to do the right thing. I hated that part!

What does Antony Ferguson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a very good job with each of the characters and I love the accent!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Due to the length of the book there was no way to listen to it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I liked the fact that this story didn't have a lot of fighting and battle in it. It was more about the characters and was a good story. I could never get to the point that I liked Elizabeth's character. It was too ironic that she "said" she was willing to live in lack with Thom but was fine when his station in life was elevated.
