Publisher's summary

Females young and old, beautiful and plain crave Valerian's touch. None can resist his blatant sensuality and potent allure…until he steals Shaye Holling from a Florida beach and holds her prisoner in his underwater kingdom. The cynical Shaye wants nothing to do with the mighty warlord, but she's inexplicably drawn to him. For underneath the warrior's arrogant beauty lies a complex and powerful man. A man whose caress is like fire.… Now Valerian must fight for the privilege of claiming her as his own. Because there's one thing Shaye doesn't know…that when a nymph discovers his true mate, she's his for life.

A VERY ENJOYABLE FANTASY WORLD TO DWELL A WHILE IN

This is book 3 in GS's Atlantis series where, in the mythical realm beneath the sea, there are three Kingdoms..... Dragons, Vampires and Nymphs and it's where a whole host of other weird and wonderful creatures live. There are alliances, hatred, friendships, wars, portals and lovers but overseeing it all is the mighty vengeful Poseidon. They could each be stand alone listens.

The handsome Nymphs need sex all the time to keep their strength up but the Dragons have stolen their females so they are forced to steal some Human women and that's when the trouble starts for Valerian, King of the Nymphs when he locks eyes with his mate.... Shaye.

It's fun, fantastical and there's a lot of bantering, humor and angst between the H/H when Shaye doesn't want to instantly drop her panties and stay with the super sexy and gorgeous King so, for the first time, Valerian really has to work hard for it. There's also sub plots involving the Dragons, Vampires and Poseidon and a secondary romance. It's filled with great characters and GS's imagination at world-building is awesome and the Narrator did a good job coping with all the many different voices.

Worth a credit? This is a entertaining, light and enjoyable fantasy romance with a couple of sex scenes between two very likeable main characters. I've listened to the whole series now and have loved every one so, YES, a very creditworthy addition to the series.

I was disappointed

Would you try another book from Gena Showalter and/or Savannah Richards?

Yes, I have read several of Gena Showalter and love most of the books...but this one was sooooo lacking. Men who enslave women to mindless nothings who just want sex. No tenderness...no nothing. Except if you were a mate. That sounds like hell to me. Even if I had the perfect man......I could not stand living in that environment. Not to mention you also are suppost to lose all will power. The story line sucked. I could not even force myself to listen to any more..... and I love a great romance....even a lukewarm romance...but this...nope.

What could Gena Showalter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It needed a story line.....It was more a man's dream ....a woman's hell

What does Savannah Richards bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The story was so bad....the voice didn't matter

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

..........No

Any additional comments?

I hate to be so harsh....normally I look a the reviewers and their comments....I may have to change who I am following because this was awful

meh...

I absolutely love gena showalter she is one of my all time favorites. she keeps me entranced in her genius. now as for this book I wasn't captured the way I normally am with her reads. for one savanna Richard's IS NOT MAX BELLMORE... when max reads to me I feel like I'm there on the very adventure the characters are on. he describes the story in detail and his voice is remarkable. Two savannah doesn't bring the growl the heat and passion Max's voice brings to a man's character. her voice was one way for valerian all through the read too serious. her voice changed for all the emotions shay felt but not for valerian. in no way am I saying Ms Richard's is not a good narrator she is great but I prefer male narrators to females especially for intimate scenes.

Exasperating!!!

I am a big Gena Showalter fan, and her original "Heartbreakers" series is one of my favorites, so I was so shocked and disappointed that I did not care for this book!

I also love shifter books and listen to quite a few series, so YES it became exasperating that the main character Shaye was so indecisive with yelling NO don't touch me out loud but yelling YES touch me in her mind, honestly it just got exhausting! In fact, the main character Valerian the Nymph King also stated, he was exasperated over her actions.

What shocked me most is Gena kept this back and forth going all the way to Chapter 23! The book was almost over by the time Shaye realized she loved Valerian. Thank God, she had Savannah Richards narrate the book, because honestly that's the only reason I stuck with it.

This would have been a great book if she actually didn't drag it along and had us actually listen to a great romance between Shaye and Valerian. How disappointing as she is usually much better in giving us a great story and unfortunately just missed the mark in this book.

The B-movie version of novels

It lacked the sophistication of a good fantasy world. It seems all the mythical creatures are lumped into one underwater world. The characters and plot are typical.

If there’s really nothing else to read or to listen. And, if you’re simply tired of hearing, talking and watching about COVID-19 and politics, then this would be an ‘ehh’ option.

Just don’t!

I really enjoyed Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld and Gods of War series. This is NOT even close!

Umm yikes

This is my first and now last Gena Showalter books. It was disturbingly rapey with the treatment of brainwashed women by the entire population of nymph men. This world sounds more like horror rather than romance.

What?

Just going to flat out say I do not believe this was written by a woman, and if it really was it’s a woman who has is very out of touch with other women.
There is a lot of things I could say about the two main characters but I’ll sum them up quick. The female lead character has a skull and cross bones tattooed to her lower back apparently and this information comes across like when you find out a coworker has dog tag tattoos but was never in the military. Like nice try but no one is buying it, this makes you even less cool. The male character is supposed to be super sexy and irresistible but he talks to women exactly the way a man who doesn’t talk to women would talk to women. Hence why I truly believe this wasn’t actually written by a female. If you don’t believe me and subscribe to audible escape go ahead and try out the first few chapters.
