Publisher's summary

Workaholic billionaire Sawyer Carlyle may have joked he needed a buffer from their marriage-obsessed mom, but he didn't need a waiting room filled with candidates to further distract him. (Thanks, bro.) But when a sexy job applicant shoos his mom and the socialite in tow out of his office, Sawyer sees the genius of the plan. And the woman. In fact, Miss Clover Lee might just get the fastest promotion in history, from buffer to fake fiancé....

This free spirit might look like hot sunshine and lickable rainbows, but she negotiates like a pit bull. Before Sawyer knows what hit him, he's agreed to give up Friday nights for reality TV, his Saturdays for flea markets (why people buy junk still baffles him), his Tuesdays and Thursdays for date nights (AKA panty-losing opportunities if he plays his cards right). And now she wants lavender bath salts and tulips delivered every Monday?

Yup, she's just screwing with him. Good thing she's got this non-negotiable six-weeks-and-she's-gone rule, or Sawyer may have just met his match....

Contains mature themes.

THE PERFECT BLEND OF FUN, STEAM, STORY AND ROMANCE

The synopsis of the story isn't new.. rich sexy Billionaire needs a convenient 'fake fiancé' for whatever reason - then suddenly or slowly he falls for the love of his life. But this easy-going entertaining story is so much more than just lighthearted fluff.. it's an addictive, compelling, contemporary and funny journey as these two polar opposites meet, negotiate negotiate negotiate.. and, despite all their differences, melt, merge and fall in love.

Workaholic Billionaire Sawyer Carlyle hasn't got time for fun or for anything that'd distract him from the family-run business - but now his widowed mother's had enough! she doesn't want him to go the way his father did and is pushing socialite marriage candidates at him right left and center. His brother steps in and 'helps' him by setting up interviews for a 'buffer'.. however Sawyer isn't impressed, doesn't think he needs one and won't employ one. But, when one of the candidates efficiently steps in and stops his mother advancing (with two more hopefuls in tow), Sawyer suddenly sees the advantages and gives the feisty woman the job. What Sawyer doesn't yet realize is that slowly the feisty fun-loving woman will challenge him, change him for the better and claim his heart too.

Free spirited Clover Lee is determined to experience everything life has to offer and never stays in one place for long - she's had all sorts of adventures - done all sorts of weird and wonderful jobs in a variety of places around the world.. and her next job is to save something endangered in Australia. So being a 'buffer' for six weeks will give her just about enough money for her next wonderful adventure.. but what the quirky sassy clever woman doesn't yet realize is that spending every day with Sawyer Carlyle will turn out to be ALL the adventure she'll ever need.

This story has nice easy-flowing humorous banter as these two opposites barter, push/pull and negotiate their way into each other's hearts. Clover pushes the workaholic Sawyer out of his comfort zone.. and more importantly out of his office by continually out-witting, out-smarting and out-manoeuvring the baffled Billionaire. Clover's job title soon goes from buffer to fake fiancé with their sizzling chemistry making it look real and agreed 'no strings' weeks of sexcapades soon follow. But before their six weeks are over playful antics turn into romantic feelings and, as the clock ticks towards the end, misunderstandings lead to heartache and broken dreams before the final happy ever afters. Good secondary characters, some touching moments, a little drama and angst, character growth and soul-soul sentiments are creatively mixed together to make a very sweet, very sexy and very enjoyable dual POV listen.

Worth a credit? It's a boatload of fun, a simmering slow-burn, a delightful rom/com, a sweet chick lit romance, a lol opposites attract and react plot, a well written well narrated story.. and YES, IMO, it definitely is a creditworthy book.

Sitting on the fence . . .

Not bad, but predictable. Wait for a 2.95/3.95 daily deal or if offered for free. Just kinda tired of rich successful sexually competent men whose personal life is crap until the blue collared girl comes along ... and like everyone lives like happily ever like after. Narrator needs more practice. And the intermittent, remote Asian dialect is over the top. And, bad recording bc it skips twice noticeably before chap 6.

Cookie cutter fake engagement listen

This wasn’t horrible, but other than the minor twist of Clover’s Chinese catch phrases, this is a formula fake engagement rom-com. Rich, white, workaholic CEO creates a fake relationship with a plucky, “free spirit” … that’s code for flighty and flaky. Clover flits from odd-job to odd-job (snake milker, dog food taster 🙄) and is determined to keep things light.

There’s a lot of repeated phrases, like her eyes going “hazy” with lust or his fingers igniting her desire when tucking her hair behind her ear, grazing her hip, brushing the edge of her clothes (the finger touch seems to be the author’s signature move to signal excitement). Sawyer also talks from his second brain- a lot. These schticks work the first few times, but overuse fades these into the vanilla end, and therefore I didn’t feel the heat for the two or three get-togethers.

I feel like I might have bumped this up from 2 star “okay” with a different narrator. This narrator sounded like she was holding her nose and was too syrupy sweet to pull off sassy or sexy. Also, maybe it was just me, but Clover seems more like the name for a horse. I don’t regret this sale purchase, but I think there are funnier, more feisty rom-coms to be had in the current sale.

I recommend:
🔥 Dear Enemy, which I loved even though I don’t care for romances involving actors
(the frenemies fireworks … scorching!)
🔥 🔥The Worst Best Man - instead of a white gal appropriating Chinese cussing,
this story has actual, and salsa-rific, Latin flavor
🔥🔥🔥 Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door - for a mystery romance that
felt like a psychic Stephanie Plum

Free Spirited Female

I love how she deals with her fears, & sticks to her desires. She doesn't give in to how others want or think, she should live her life.

Great Story

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. I loved the interaction between these two characters. Both thought themselves to be skilled negotiators but they negotiated themselves into a nice HEA. I loved the humor and one-upmanship. The narrator delivered each punch line in such a way that made me want to keep listening. Great story for a rainy afternoon.

Cute Story

I enjoyed this one, and all the books in this series. Yes it is a little raunchy but sometimes that is just what you are in the mood for! I thought the story was cute and funny. I enjoy a story with a strong female lead. And as a woman in business I enjoy her negotiating skills.
