Publisher's summary

Midnight is the most bewitching hour of them all.…

From Paula Brackston, the New York Times best-selling author of The Witch’s Daughter and The Winter Witch, comes a magical tale that is as dark as it is enchanting. Set in high-society Edwardian England, The Midnight Witch is the story of a young witch who faces the choice between love and loyalty to her coven.…

"The dead are seldom silent. All that is required for them to be heard is that someone be willing to listen. I have been listening to the dead all my life."

Lady Lilith Montgomery is the daughter of the sixth Duke of Radnor. She is one of the most beautiful young women in London and engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor. She is also a witch.

When her father dies, her hapless brother Freddie takes on his title. But it is Lilith, instructed in the art of necromancy, who inherits their father’s role as Head Witch of the Lazarus Coven. And it is Lilith who must face the threat of the Sentinels, a powerful group of sorcerers intent on reclaiming the Elixir from the coven’s guardianship for their own dark purposes. Lilith knows the Lazarus creed: Secrecy and silence. To abandon either would put both the coven and all she holds dear in grave danger. She has spent her life honoring it, right down to her engagement to her childhood friend and fellow witch Viscount Louis Harcourt.

Until the day she meets Bram, a talented artist who is neither a witch nor a member of her class. With him, she must not be secret and silent. Despite her loyalty to the coven and duty to her family, Lilith cannot keep her life as a witch hidden from the man she loves. To tell him will risk everything.

The midnight witch

What I love about this book, I love the narrator, the history and the details. I have listened to quite a bit of Paula Brackston novels, and I love them all.

The Midnight Witch was Ok.

I liked this book because it was cute with a good narrator. Probably better for YA . But I enjoyed the wholesome nature. As much as necromancy can be wholesome. But no gory details, language, or sex, even Lilith's little spirit helpers could've been Disney characters.

I'm so glad I found ms. brackston and her witches. this was the first I listened to, but I've dived into the witch's daughter series too now. they are good stories well told. and ms. calin has a most enjoyable reading voice and cadence. a must listen recommendation. I thank you both ladies for jobs well done!

Just as wonderful as all of her titles!

This title is one of my favorites from Paula Brackston. She does a an excellent job creating characters that her readers can get attached to and care about. I had read some reviews that said this title was "darker" thank some of her others. They are all fantasy books about witches and witchcraft--a little darkness is to be expected. Regardless, this title is no darker than any of the others, in my opinion. One of the things that I loved about this book is that in many ways it seems to be a bit of a nod to Romanticism. In Brackston's novel, I see elements of some of the writers and pieces from the era of Byron and P.B. and Mary Shelley. I am looking forward to Brackston's upcoming title and definitely recommend this one as well. P.S. Brackston could not have chosen a better narrator than Marissa Calin.

Like the concept

...buy it somehow fell short. I think part of it is the reader, she designates great character depictions, but when she narrates the story or talks in first person, she gets this kind of climatic whine that sounds like she is going to break, and never does. I do not think I am describing it very well. it took forever to get through this book, I kept droning out the story and losing my place. The writing is good enough, except, the heroine seems weak, like not flawed weak, but weak fabric.
The story, however, is fascinating. The concept of this society and the Era in which it takes place is all very nice.
