Publisher's summary

Life for Victoria Lacey should be perfect. And it is - perfectly boring.

Agree to marry a lord who has yet to inspire a single, solitary tingle? Why, of course. Smile as though this is not the thousandth time he's mentioned hounds and hunting? It's all in a day's work for the oh-so-proper sister of the Duke of Blackmore. Surely no one would suspect her secret longing for heart-racing, head-spinning passion.

Except, perhaps, a dark stranger...on a terrace...at a ball where she should definitely not be kissing a man she has only just met.

Hatred, not love, drives Lucien Wyatt, Viscount Atherbourne, to tempt the "Flower of Blackmore" into sin. Her brother has done unthinkable damage to Lucien's family, and he intends to exact revenge in the only way left to him: Ruining his enemy's sister, then stealing her from Blackmore by making her his own.

As Lucien carries out his ruthless plan, tutoring his new bride in the finer points of pleasure, her surrender leaves him breathless...and soon a new obsession awakens - a scandalous fascination with his irresistible wife.

Contains mature themes.

Horrific FAKE British accent

I will never purchase another book with this narrator. I hate it when a great story is ruined by a terrible narrator. This fake british accent bothered me from the beginning and I could not recover. At one point I thought my ears would start bleeding. I think she was going for a Rosalyn Landor impression, but fell so far short it was laughable.
The words "possibility", "cottage" and "black" ( which comes out as "block"...whish would happen when you are faking it), were just a few of the problems.
On top of all of that she made the heroine seem overdramatic and shrill. I could not finish.
Another reviewer said the same thing and I should have believed, but I was silly and took a chance. A waste of a credit. I did like the sory, as much as I could stand. I can only hope this author writes more and uses a skilled narrator, as this series has the same narrator.

A wonderful HR listen

I wasn't expecting this book to be so good. It was Awesome, I couldn't put it down when I started. That's saying a lot, I can listen up to 5 books at a time. Well worth the credit, I'm buying the next one

Lots of characters to keep track of

I had to listen to the first chapter several times and make a list of all the characters to keep them straight. After that I thought the story was interesting - actually better than most historical romances. What I liked most was the several interesting characters - men and women - whose stories I'd like to see continued in following books in the series. And that doesn't happen often. I'd definitely read any books in the series that continue their stories.

What a GREAT find.

I was just roaming around looking for someone new to read, and this title stood out. I always read the reviews, and was turned off about what was said about the narrator. She is really bad, but I increased the speed. That made the listening so much better. This is a great story with some good twists and turns to make it different. I am on to the second book, but I will listen to this one again. Sex scenes are very sensual and moving (if you know what I mean). Glad I took a chance on this one.

I really didn't like this book

I honestly didn't like anything about this book. The "hero" of the story was a manipulative jerk. Everything he did, he did for himself and that didn't change the whole book. He didn't slowly starting acting like a decent human being, let alone an adoring husband.. he was controlling the whole time. And there heroine still somehow fell in love with him. I just don't understand that. The only time they wanted the same thing was in the bedroom and that's not love people.

This book had no substance. The hero didn't learn anything. I guess he made a half butt apology but that's about it. And the heroine was incredibly weak to keep going back to someone who was using her for revenge.

The narrator was good though. It's not her fault the book was terrible.

I plan on reading the next book just because this series has been recommended to me so many times. I feel like there has to be something I am missing. Plus the next book is part of the audible escape program... so I won't have to pay for it.

Book might be good if you could get past narration

I can't tell you if the actual book is good or bad, I couldn't get past chapter 1 because of the narration. This is the first time I've ever given a bad review based solely on the narration, but the narrator would be better suited for breathy soft porn than romance. I swear she sounded more like she was doing a fake, little girl breathy "happy birthday Mr. President" than narrating a book. It was creepy and annoying in equal parts.

NARRATORS BRITISH ACCENT WAS TO HARD TO UNDERSTAND

Very enjoyable story of a Duel that resulted in the death of Gregory Viscount Atherbourne. The new Viscount Lucien is his brother. Now set on revenge for his brothers death and the death of his sister. He goes after Harrison Lacey Duke of Blackmore for whom he believes are responsible for there deaths. He takes his sister away by publically compromising her at a Ball.

After Victoria and Lucien are wed they have what I would call a erotic sensual connection. What Victoria doesn't know is at this time Lucien is using her by not letting her brother Harrison visit her. He even makes sure she doesn't recieve the letters he writes her. She think he is not answering her letters. When she realizes the truth she is hurt dismayed and wants to see her brother. So she refuses to make love with Lucien. They will only pretend there marriage is a love match in front of the Ton in public.

This was a sad story when you find out why the duel occured and what happen to Atherbourne's young sister. You begin to understand his hatred toward Harrison and why he wants revenge. But is Harrison the Duke of Blackmore Really Guitly? I never though he was. Just from the way he loved his sister and his brother. He was a very honorable man. But I was not sure until i read what caused the duel.

Lucien and Victoria were brilliantly written and I love both of there characters. The secondary characters were well written also.

I started out listen to this story on Audible book but the narrator's British Accent was very hard to understand at times. The story was recorded on a low volume so even when you turned up the volume it was not very easy to hear. I had to then download it on my kindle and read it.

Narrator's awful "british" accent ruins the story!

This could've been a good story of they had not chosen shoreline with an obviously fake and terrible accent to read. Just awful!

Disappointed

The reviews of the book sounded good but I couldn’t through the first chapter. The narrator is terrible. She sounds like she has a combination of a terrible English accent with a French accent thrown in. I guess I’ll have to barrow the book & read it myself. I tried slowing it down & still could only catch part of it. I’m glad it was an Escape book that was easily returned.
