I have not had that much fun listening to a book in a long time! I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud. My family probably thought I was crazy! Lol
The main characters are awesome, specially Alice! She is so crazy at times that I have no idea how Johnny could put up with her! There are some twists and turns and I did not see where the story was going, but the conclusion is much better than I expected it!
The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life! In this book, you will find lots of humor, mystery, suspense, drama, twists, and a touch of romance as well.
I'm really looking forward to reading another book written by this talented author.

This was such a great cozy! Johnny, the lead character is a bit gruff and rough around the edges, but has a lovable heart. When he gets accidentally framed for murder he meets a fan named Alice who takes him on a whirlwind tour around California interviewing witnesses to prove his innocence.
The story kept me interested from start to finish, and in fact towards the end there is a second pretty big mystery and plot twist. It all comes together in the end, but you will really be kept guessing! There isn't a dull moment through through it all.
The narration was also well done, I loved how well Alice's bubbly personality shone through & how I could feel the chemistry between the characters. I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

Life isn't easy for a has been T.V. star unable to get acting work so forced to labour on a construction site. Even harder when his old co star is now popular, rich and offering him a job - mending a lavatory! But things are about to get a whole lot worse....
When I first started to listen to the complimentary review copy I received, via Audiobook Boom, I had no idea just how much I was going to enjoy The Leading Man. The narrator read the text at a very fast pace, with odd little pauses sometimes breaking the flow. I began to think he was the wrong person to have chosen; but how wrong I was. Within minutes I was used to his slight peculiarities and realised he was the perfect voice for Johnny Fortuna, fast, sometimes angry and often perplexed. Plus the dialogues were superbly done, each conversational voice distinctive and very appropriate. I especially enjoyed the gentle English sounding solicitor and Alice, a fan of Johnny's old detective series, who accompanies him on his real life Leading Man quest.
The book is ingenious, cleverly written, an old style adventure mystery where the hero (Johnny) and quick talking companion (Alice) try to track down the killer in a race against time. And it is a neat little mystery full of colourful characters and an array of locations, all simply but atmospherically described. The constant chatter from Alice and the unlikely situations in which the couple find themselves is great fun and, just occasionally, laugh out loud funny. And just when you think it's all over, well, it isn't. Perhaps the ending is a wee bit predictable but no harm in that as the rest of the book certainly is not.
If you are looking for a well written, fun story with quirky.characters in a crime solving caper, look no further. I can, without hesitation, recommend The Leading Man.

A very enjoyable screwball romantic comedy reminiscent of old black and white movies. In fact I would happily watch a movie adaptation of this book!
I really loved this story, it was sweet, funny and frequently madcap. One episode of cross-talk especially had me almost helpless with laughing. It was nice to be in a light-hearted world for a few hours and I really loved the characters (even though once or twice I wanted to shake our leading man for his almost total lack of self-preservation!) and in particular I found Alice a delight.
I really loved the narrator's voice and his characterisations but it would be better if he slowed down just a little, also occasionally his pauses seem to come at the wrong moments within a sentence, almost as if he hadn't read the line before speaking it, but this didn't affect my enjoyment of the book or his characterisations.
I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the author's next book.
