Wonderful story with great characters

This book was even better than the first in the series. Though I really liked the first book, this book flowed a bit more naturally. This book is filled with such great characters. I absolutely LOVED Christine. I love how she is strong and not afraid to speak out for what is right. I love that this is a "clean" romance. When I was listening to the audiobook, I didn't have to worry about my kids overhearing something that they shouldn't. The narrator of this book, Carolyn Kashner, really impressed me with her ability to do accents. Overall, this book is really entertaining and if you like romance of the clean variety, I highly recommend this book (as well as the others in the series)

The story continues

Book 2 of the series, this one takes place several years later. Now the Kingsmen are starting trouble. Wanting to take over Cordovia and bring back the strict and hateful rule to the land. It will not happen as Austin Knight--known to a few as the Highwayman--and Christine, the friend of Robin and Daniel and the pastor's daughter work together to defeat the Kingsmen from taking over. Thus a wonderful story of courage, strength, and determination is weaved, leaving, in the end, two people who realize in their hearts that they are meant to be.

Once again, Linda Weaver Clarke enchants you with a wonderful story that gives you a laugh here and there and leaves you unwilling to turn the audiobook off. Whether you listen to this tell or prefer to read it, you will enjoy it immensely.

Loved These Characters

This book picks up a few years after where the first leaves off in the land of Cordovia!

There are so many qualities these characters display that I just absolutely love, in general. They are very well developed and charming. I LOVE the patriotism for Cordovia that is shown throughout. Christine is a very strong female character that isn't afraid to stand for what she believes and unapologetically voices her opinions about the Kingmen. One can feel the magnetism between Christine and Austin as their relationship grows.

A very sweet romance between two people who are fighting for the greater good of Cordovia while simultaneously discovering their love for each other. It has a great plot that advances the turmoil that is within the country, and is full of great Christian values.

The narrator exhibits another great performance in this audiobook. I think she is a perfect fit for these sweet romances.

Another good story

We’re once again in the Kingdom of Cordovia where highwaymen are stopping people and robbing them. Someone had stolen an heirloom from the Palace. As the story opens Christine, a very spunky and courageous woman is stopped and searched by 3 highwaymen who think she has the heirloom. The highwaymen want to steal the heirloom and give it back to the high judge before it ends up in the hands of the Kingman’s. After recognizing who Christine from when he was younger, Austin decides to go visit Christine. But how will Christine react when she finds out that Austin is a highwayman… especially after being captured by the highwaymen again? This story does have a twist toward the end!

Adventure, Excitement, and Romance!

The Highwayman of Cordovia is an exciting story filled with lots of adventure! This was probably my favorite of all of the books that I have listened to by this author. It was so easy for me to get pulled into the story and the whole time it kept me wanting more. The Highwayman of Cordovia is book 2 of the Rebel Series. It is set in the country of Cordovia, in a time shortly after the wicked king had been overthrown. The Kingsmen, a group of people who support the evil king, are trying to overtake the country again. It follows the two main characters, Christine, a pastor’s daughter, and Austin, her old childhood classmate (and now highwayman), as they work to protect the Cordovia and stop the Kingsmen. Christine and Austin are immediately smitten by each other and develop deep romantic feelings as the story continues. Both characters have strong personalities and are very easy to like. The story narration was also good. The narrator spoke very clearly and had different voices for the different characters, which made them easy to distinguish. Overall, I really enjoyed this. It was a great book and I would highly recommend it!

Romance and adventure

There is something about this series that has truly captured my attention. I do enjoy a historical story, but I think the main thing I love about this series is the lead female character. This story focuses on Christine. She is the daughter of the pastor and a friend of Robin we previously met in the first installment. When she is coming home, she encounters a highwayman. Little does she know that this is her childhood crush Austin Knight! She is very vocal with her views and finds herself as a target of Amalick, one trying to take control of Cordovia. Austin finds himself not only falling for Christine, but protecting her and the new regime that is currently in place. Will Christine fall for Austin again once she knows his secrets? Will her pastor father give his blessing for the non-churchgoer? This story is full of fun and adventure. I love Christine and her strength. She is not afraid of voicing her opinion. I loved Austin too. You could feel the conflict building in him as their feelings grew stronger. It also brings in Robin and Daniel, giving us that sense of community from book to book. A little mystery and suspense added to the adventure and romance and it's an enjoyable listen.

Carolyn Kashner continues her narration with great voices and pace. I love her accents for some, and enjoy her ability to discern the voices from male to female. She adds some flare during the high paced scenes and great emotion in others. Another wonderful performance.

Entertaining Robin Hood-Type Adventure

The Highwaymen of Cordovia by Linda Weaver Clarke continues the adventures that started in The Rebels of Cordovia, an entertaining Robin Hood-type saga. In the first book, we met the daughter of a local baker, Robin, who secretly taught a small group of vigilantes to fight for basic freedoms against a tyrant king who taxed his subjects into extreme poverty. In the second book, we meet the daughter of a preacher, Christine, who besides her daily chores and visits to the less fortunate, she writes articles that reveal corruption that remain in the upper classes after the king’s exile, especially in a group that call themselves “The Kingsman.”

This story basically begins when Christine’s borrowed carriage is accosted by a group of highwaymen who attempt to steal valuables from her. Thankfully, these highwaymen are truly like the legendary Robin Hood, who only steal from the rich and give what they steal back to the poor. The rest of the story is how Christine and one of the highwaymen discover they are fighting for the same cause, how one of the handsome highwaymen saves her from the leader of the Kingsmen who wants her dead, and how they fall in love in the process.

Carolyn Kashner narrated the Audible version of this audiobook, which was very enjoyable. She varied her voices for both male and female characters and inflected just the right amount of emotion in all the right places. I really look forward to listening to the next great adventure in The Rebels series!

Great Blend of Adventure and Romance

This is the second book in The Rebel Series, which is based in the 1700s in the fictional land of Cordovia. After overthrowing the corrupt king and his court in the first book, the rebels settle down to enjoy their freedom under a new government. But the kingsmen are still plotting to return a king to the throne, and the first step of their plan involves the theft of a treasured item. Austin and Christine, the highwayman and the pastor's daughter, join forces to find the item and stop the kingsmen from oppressing Cordovia again.

This was an enjoyable listen, a clean historical read with a little bit of Christian flavor. Although Christine is the pastor's daughter, the sermons and Christian message weren't heavy handed. The characters in the first novel made an appearance, but you could read this book as a standalone without reading the first book.

This book was a great blend of adventure and romance. I love a book with an intelligent and strong female protagonist, and Christine was a good one. She was interested in the workings of the government and making her country a better place, and she used her head to make it that way. Austin had the same goals, he just had a different way of getting things done. I thought they made a great match.

The narration was done well, Carolyn Kashner narrated the first book and I always appreciate consistent narration through a series. She had a great range of accents for the characters and a pleasant voice to listen to. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Fun and entertaining book!

Linda Weaver Clarke is a talented writer of historical fiction. I enjoyed this in "regular" book format, but loved it in the Audible version. With the talents of narrator Carolyn Kashner, the characters come to life. It is so fun and enjoyable to listen as she tells the story. This is a great relaxing way to read.

The Highwayman of Cordovia is the second book of the new Rebels of Cordovia series by Linda Weaver Clarke. I love reading a series and seeing characters from a previous book in the series reappear. It's wonderful to see how things turned out for them.

This book is the story of Christine, a pastor's daughter and Austin. Austin and Christine had been friends as youth and separated through the years. As their paths cross again after many years, things spark up between them. Yet their lives do not appear to be headed in the same direction.

Christine begins to fall in love with Austin but is not aware of his true self and would not approve of the life he is leading. The twists and turns will keep you turning the pages. These books express good moral values and are very enjoyable.
The book is a clean Christian read and historical in nature, which I enjoy. It was a good book and I look forward to the 3rd book in the series.
I received an Audible version from the author for my honest review which I have given.
