Publisher's Summary

After a botched raid in Afghanistan, ex-army specialist Michel Deverroux returned to Galveston, Texas, with more baggage than intended. Without family, friends, or money, Michel turned to drugs to relieve the horrors of war. He knew it was a dark path, but he saw no other choice. Michel was awash in a world of numbness and addiction until his estranged uncle Andy died, leaving Michel a rundown beach front home and a hefty inheritance.
With something to finally call his own in the world, a spark of hope returns to Michel's life - a spark that is ignited when he sees a somber yet beautiful woman walking along the beach. Michel falls instantly in love with her and nicknames her his "Mermaid". Now, determined to be a man that his new love would want to be with, Michel vows to turn his life around and win over his "Mermaid", Annabelle. Overcoming the shadows of his past seems nearly impossible, but the drive to have Annabelle gives Michel the motivation to overcome his demons.

Returning Vet Emotionally Damaged, Headtbroken Girl

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Michelle (hero) has returned from war after seeing a friend shot by a young boy, who Michelle then shot. He is emotionally torn apart. Also at 13 his parents disowned him and his only single male relative he was close to dies when he gets home.
Dependency on drugs and a stint of selling drugs, !i belle brings to pull his life together. He lives on to he Texas beach and the sight every evening of a young woman walking on the beach calls to him.
Annabelle is the girl, who lost her mother recently and a month before her wedding her groom has an affair and says terrible things
to break her self confidence.
There is a nice amount of background of the H and h, you come to like and sometimes frustrated with each of them.
It's a shorter story but feels complete.
The narrator has a great voice and does an excellent job with male and
female..great timing and emotion. He is a narrator a i know an eill always enjoy.

Any additional comments?

This is my second book by Amber Burns and I enjoyed the narration by the talented DC Cole, but I found this story to be a little bit dull in the romance aspect. I also had a hard time buying the Insta love between Michel and Annabelle.
