Publisher's Summary

In the war between heaven and hell, a special race of humans with supernatural abilities will represent the balance between darkness and light. They are known as The Guardians.
Jack Bennett comes from a long line of Guardians, a fact that has been drummed into him since he was a kid. When he and a select group of elite Guardians are called upon by the Archangel Michael to complete a special assignment, Jack gladly accepts. Seven years later a failing mission and personal losses have left him jaded, bitter, and without room for love or relationships in his life.
The past that Addison Monroe is so desperately trying to escape is one she can't outrun. The darkness inside that causes her to act unpredictably has gone unexplained until now. A woman claiming to be an angel appears with a revelation that will shake Addison to her core: her dark nature is explained as Addison discovers that she is one of the Nephilim - a child born of a human mother and demon father.
Despite the dark nature she was born with, Addison has been chosen by heaven for a special purpose. Ten scrolls spelled to open up portals between hell and Earth; 10 demons who are using them to come and go from Earth at will, a violation of the terms set by heaven in the battle for souls; and one demon, known as the Great Duke of Hell, who will stop at nothing to defeat her. Fighting alongside two Guardians, Addison must uncover the legendary Seal of Solomon - a ring that is said to possess the power to destroy demons - and wield it against the enemies of heaven.
As his task to protect her develops into something more, Jack will find separating his job from his personal life nearly impossible. Ignoring the dangers of becoming too attached, Jack will find that a woman whose very nature should repulse him might just be his saving grace.

Good Start to a New Series

The Guardians is a short novel, an angels and guardians v demons and witches, paranormal adventure/romance. It's a well-written and interesting introduction to what looks to be a series of books with a heaven and hell theme. As a first book, the world parameters are set up and back stories and such are shared, but it's done well and not in a way where the pace of what is going on suffers. Jack and Micah are guardians, a demon-icidal duo, who are charged with protecting Addison, a half-breed who is destined to play a large role in the battle of good v evil. It ends on a semi-cliffhanger-- not so much hanging off the cliff but maybe more like coasting down the mountain and not knowing what's at the bottom. I make that distinction because I do NOT like cliffhangers, and I was OK with how this ended, I would definitely be interested in continuing on and finding out where this series goes.

The narrator, Henry McNulty, does a good job of performing the dialogue and using the right amount of emotion while crafting distinct voices for the various characters. Outside of the dialogue, he has a bit of an odd cadence, and his pronunciation is either a bit formal or he is performing the American accent he is using and has a bit of "slippage" here and there. Regardless, because of the etherial/paranormal aspect, it works with this particular book, so no worries. I enjoyed his performance.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an unbiased review. The number of stars I award in the 5-star rating system is based on where I believe this audiobook rates with other audiobooks of the same type, length and general feel-- not where it rates in comparison to all audiobooks of all time.

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchanged for an honest review **

I honestly loved sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn't put this down! I listened to it all at once and can not wait for the next one!

This is about the war between good and evil to start with...Mainly about a girl named Addison who is stripping her way through college and has always been a little bit different....she has a very dark inner monologue and has never known why....Then we have Jack and Micah who are guardians who protect the children of angels called nephlum...Well Addison is one of these children...and she does not accept this easily....there is a bit of fighting, and a nice love story to go along with everything else and it ends on a little cliffhanger.....Thoroughly enjoyed it!!! 2 thumbs up!!!!
