Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Gena Showalter returns with her most explosive Lords of the Underworld tale to date, about a fierce warrior on the brink of sanity who will stop at nothing to claim the exquisite human with the power to soothe the beast inside him....

Driven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he's back, but at what cost?

Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he's unable to withstand the touch of another...and he's quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride - just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she's taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she's plunged into a war between two evils - with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts.

They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them...and all too soon, the biggest threat is to her heart. But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she'll have to teach him to love...or lose him forever.

Out of all the books this was by far my favorite.

This was my favorite by a long shot. I could enjoy a dozen books on Catarina and the hellhounds alone.

beautiful story

I do love this connection and her knowing how to work with the beast. the only issue is I am so tired of Liam and his obsession with gilly. it is really creepy and borderline disgusting....the fact that so many want them together really is a trauma issue they need to work out with a therapist....

A tormented journey

I loved this story. The twists in the plot also twisted my heart, but both came out better for it. The narrator is amazing as always and the writing style of this book is superb.

Katarina is a human with which one does not mess!!

What made the experience of listening to The Darkest Torment the most enjoyable?

I love their story but I loved all the many, many, many sub stories that were included bringing all my favorite characters back for updates and furthering the stories yet to be! This turned out to be one of my absolute favorite LOT books yet!!! There was laughter, pain, intense emotions, serious topics and everything in between!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Darkest Torment?

I'm afraid that anything I say here will give too much away!!!

What about Max Bellmore’s performance did you like?

Max is such a great narrator! His voice expresses whatever is needed from the scene, be it anticipation, exasperation, humor, angst, disgust, love or longing! He doesn't go overboard with the different voices like so many others do. Just perfect!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely but life does get in the way! Regardless it only took me two days because I just could not put it down!!!

Any additional comments?

I actually wasn't looking forward to Baden's story. I just didn't feel he deserved one yet. That being said, Gena is one of my go to authors and I one clicked it without bothering to read the description. Needless to say this one threw me for a loop! I did not see this one coming at all! For some reason I really thought that Baden was going to end up with Pandora. I never saw Katarina Joelle and boy did she surprise me! She is one feisty as hell human with a backbone of steal!

Another sexy warrior to drool over.

Now if you have reached this book in the series, you know what you are in for. So get the book already it is another great addition to the series and you won't regret getting it. If your new to the series get the first one The Darkest Night, this is a series that needs to be read in order. I especially like the hell hounds in this story, although it did remind me a bit of Larissa Ione's Lord of Deliverance series which I love so I was cool with that. Both Baden and Katarina were great characters that I could rally behind and I was glad to be there for the journey. I suspect that William and Jillian's story is coming up and I am not that excited about it. Like with Paris, I'm not a huge fan of William, but it will be interesting to see what happens. I would be perfectly happy if Gena Showalter adds their story in with another couple's book instead of them having their own book. I am looking forward to Misery and Lazarus's book though and maybe even letting Pandora get her own book. The cherry on top for this series is the sexy narrator, I defiantly like listening to him read.
