Publisher's summary

A woman of independent means with a healthy dose of cynicism about those of the male persuasion, Harriet Tremayne is content with her circle of spinster friends and their devotion to literature, women's rights, and intellectual interests. When she determines to undertake the London season for her beautiful but featherbrained niece, however, she concedes she must appear less a bluestocking and more fashionable to successfully sponsor this impossible young lady whose only real desire, it seems, is to consume chocolate.

Certainly, her modish new appearance has nothing to do with the attentions of Lord Dangerfield, a wicked man of the world who has designs on the fair niece yet spends an inordinate amount of time trying to sell Harriet on the virtues of his all-too-obvious attributes.

Wonderful! Very entertaining!

I love these kinds of stories, but I was really afraid it would be like so many with the tedious youngster. I was very pleasantly surprised, though. The characters in this were wonderful, including the tedious youngster. Quite a few unexpected plot twists, too. This is definitely one to keep.

Fun

During the first two thirds, I thought this was Chesney at her best. I wish all of her books were this fun and unusual, But alas, in the last third, the shenanigans became somewhat tiresome to me, as happens often in this genre. Many readers will enjoy the plot because, after all, it's still Chesney's delightful style. So I won't give any spoilers, and I did enjoy the characters enough to finish the book. But Imissed the straightforward uniqueness of the early two thirds. Lindy Nettleton is her usual superb self.

Great story and great narration

One of my favorite Chesney novels. I really liked the different storyline, with the heroine being an older " spinster". The hero was wonderful and I was routing for him all along. Just a simple, sweet listen when you want to relax.

Great fun

It’s hilarious. What a fun read and it’s quite unique. Should be turned into a movie, it’s greatly enjoyable.

Very funny and witty!

So far I have loved all the books in this series. This was probably one of my favorites along with dreadful debutant. Lots of subtle witticism and humor. Just adored it
