Publisher's summary

Douglas "Devil" Radcliffe has spent years carving out Devil's Acre, an area where the titled and entitled lords of London come to play. But when Queen Victoria proposes a reformation plan to the House of Lords that would have the wretched souls of nearby St. Giles moving into his territory, Devil sets out to buy, bribe, and steal the votes he needs to stop her. One vote short and running out of time, Devil has Lord Edwards's daughter kidnapped and held captive. The price of her freedom? Lord Edwards's vote.

As Lord Edwards's daughter, Jacqueline's life was defined at the moment of her birth. Growing up in the shadow of her mother's death in childbirth, she has spent years trying to make it up to her father. Now a grown woman, she is torn between her duty to her father and her desire for a life of her own. Irrevocably changed after her kidnapping, Jacqueline tries to put the pieces of her life back together only to find they no longer fit.

Very interesting and different, in a good way!

This was a good book, a little different than what I am used to in a historical romance novel. The hero and heroine were both strong and had good chemistry. There is plenty of action going on throughout the book, some unsavory. There was lots of dialogue.
There was OMG moments as well.
I thought it was all in all a good book. Not a long book so no filler moments.

The narrator did a really great job. The men sounded like men, and the rest of the characters had their own distinctive voice. Kudos to Michaela James for a great narration.

THANKFULLY LOVE DID CONQUER & HEAL ALL

The night Devil decided to kidnap Lady Jacqueline it started off a terrible chain of events that would change both their lives forever. There was plenty of action coupled with tense thrilling moments, there was grizzly murders coupled with a viscous evil murderer and a Lady's ruined reputation coupled with marriage proposals.

In short this intense, emotional and very enjoyable book packed an awful lot into it's hours and delivered a plot that was menacing yet tender too and was filled with many likeable, and some not so likeable, characters all either helping or hindering Devil and Jacqueline's attempts to get their very hard won HEA of an Epilogue. There's a brutal rape scene at the start which is quickly over but may put some of you off, secrets, twists & turns, betrayal, danger, guilt, revenge, passion, sex and, through all the trials and tribulations, there was a damaged couple who, despite everything, fell in over.

Worth a credit? Not the usual type of light Victorian romances but it's gripping, captivating and well narrated.... so that folks is a YES from me.

Great read

I took a chance on a new author and narrator and they go together like peanut butter and jelly, what a pleasant surprise. I really loved this book. Non stop excitement I could not put it down. This historical romance is not soft and sweet or petty and pink. It's a bit dark and so is Devil (hero) and I was routing for him all the way. Jacqueline is nice and very sweet but don't mistake her for weak. This author reminds me of Lorraine Heath's work. The narrator is a gem. She pulled off rough and roofless as well as petty and pink characters and she did it well. Michaela brought this book to life. This audio is the only one on Audible. I hope that will change. I'm looking forward to books written by Jennifer and narrated by Michaela.

Devil

Any additional comments?

The narrator s voices were good but she starts off a bit fast. I actually checked the reading speed on my kindle to make sure it was set at normal speed. Thankfully the reading becomes more normal a few chapters in.

The end does not justify the means.

Has The Bride of Devil's Acre turned you off from other books in this genre?

It is not the genre that is the pproblem. It is the mind set of the author and the readers that enjoy this kind of violent rape with a " happily ever after ending ".

Would you be willing to try another one of Michaela James’s performances?

I tried this book because I have enjoyed other books read by the narrator.

Any additional comments?

The content of the story and the number of women who have given it such high praise makes me glad that I am 71 yrs old and will not have to live too many more years. I will think more than twice before I try a new author again and will not waste my time reading any reviews.. Gloria Stienem should be so proud.

Descriptive, sadistic RAPE made me stop listening!

I kept listening because usually at the very last moment someone saves the girl but in this case it did not happen and it was absolutely disgusting. The cutting of her skin and raping was just disgusting I stopped at one hour and seven minutes. Return in this horrible book. I don’t even want to know what happens next the book is ruined for me
