Publisher's summary

Lord Leo Byron is bored with the aristocratic company he keeps; he needs a distraction, preferably in the form of a beautiful new female companion. So when he sets eyes on fascinating and scandalous divorcée Lady Thalia Lennox, he's determined to make her intimate acquaintance. But the spirited woman seems to have no intention of accepting his advances no matter how much he chases - or how hard he falls....

Once a darling of society, Thalia Lennox now lives on its fringes. The cruel lies that gave her a notoriously wild reputation have also left her with a broken heart and led to a solemn vow to swear off men. Still, Leo Byron's bold overtures are deliciously tempting, and for the first time she finds herself wondering whether it just might be worth the risk to let the attractive rake into her life - and her bed....

Slow start ... better ending.

Though this story was slow to start, it had a good storyline (sometimes predictable) and great character development. The ending was both satisfying and surprising. I look forward to the next book in the series. AND I want to go back read about the other Byron siblings. Too bad they are not audiobooks.

Older lady... younger man...that's a twist!

Two things surprised me about this one. 1) The heroine of the story was older than her love interest, and 2) The adversary didn't die like expected. I was very pleased to see the female lead being older than her love interest. We see it time and time again with the male being quite a few years advanced from the girl and no one bats an eye. For me this was what made the story just a little refreshing., the other thing was having the villain drop dead from a heart attack. I didn't see that one coming! Otherwise, the story is pretty predicable with the usual over the top sex. Entertaining, but very in the normal scope of things.

DNF..

Believe it or not I’ve owned this book since July 10, 2015, and I’ve tried reading it a half dozen times, without success. I’ve gotten to 38% this time and I just can’t finish. It started off with Leo wanting Thalia as his next mistress and that’s still all he wants. He’s chasing and she’s avoiding, page after page. I can’t read 352 pages of that kind of nonsense. I liked Thalia but Leo was just too arrogant for me, and I usually like arrogant heroes. Maybe he was written all wrong for me, I don't know.

There wasn’t any kind of real desire. He simply wanted her and wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I'm sure there was sex in this book but I have no idea when.

As to the narration: Barrie Kreinik was barely ok for me. She could have done a better job on the men’s voices and it would have been great.

Outstanding!

I generally decline submitting a review however, this narrator was so outstanding, the characters and storyline very well established, I felt I must add my "two cents". An extra special listen!!

Very different

The storyline held my interest because there were things to be discovered about the divorce and the ex-husband. Since you found out things throughout the story you were always on alert.

Continuation of ‘The Byrons of Braebourne’ series

I had previously read this series and I must admit it didn’t make an impact on me at the time. Not until I listen to the ‘The Byrons of Braebourne’ series by the same author. This book is the first in the ‘Rakes of Cavendish Square’ series. If one is to fully enjoy this series, please listen to the Byron’s of Braebourne series. I only wish Rebecca De Leeuw could have narrated the Rakes of Cavendish Square series as well. She did an amazing job in the previous series. I think the author put more effort in the first series than with the second where the stories of the last of Byron siblings are told. Their characters were better portrayed in the first series in their older siblings’ stories than in their own stories in the second series. A good narrator can improve a boring book, and in this series of the Rakes of Cavendish Square the three narrators totally messed it up. The name pronunciation of some of the characters was done so differently by the narrators that it took me a while to catch up. But my curiosity to know what happened to the last three Byron siblings was enough for me to bear it to finish the series. This series also helped me catch up with the older Byron siblings in their HEA.

Fun and sweet

The beginning felt a bit slow. I almost gave up. kKeep going, her tricks and back story have a bit of redemption.

Very enjoyable listening.

I really enjoyed this book. It held my interest from beginning to end. The story line and narrator were great.

"Hero" is Manipulative A-hole

You'd think after all the heroine has been through that she would be not so easy to manipulate. The "hero" is a shallow horn dog. He believes the gossip about the heroine, and apparently, about all women. I don't know how his is different than the other men in the story who assume the MC is a slut and know she is vulnerable, and who then try to sleep with her. Is being a predator sexy?

I know this is typical for romance books, but with minimal effort he could have been a more sympathetic character. Eventually he evolves. But it's hard to believe given how he is at the beginning. And, as usual, hotness substitutes for actual character or appealing personality traits.

Couldn’t finish - bad narration

I have listened to many titles by this author and enjoyed them. I am giving the story the benefit of the doubt since I could not listen longer than about an hour. Very bummed since I was looking forward to the twins stories but I won’t bother with any others narrated by Barrie.
