I got this book in the afternoon and ended up finishing it in one night.
It's seriously HOT. I've been through my fair share of erotic romance novels with fantasy themes but none have had the amount of character chemistry that this one had. I hadn't read the first book but saw that it was good as a stand-alone so I figured it was okay to get and it was so worth it. You really don't need to read the first book at all. The world is simple and confidently established enough to be believable to the reader. Although sometimes the bickering was a bit dramatic as a way to push the story along the characters personalities are believable.
The narrator was one I've heard before and the reason I found the book in the first place. Her style of narration is PERFECTION and her character dialog is distinct yet not pushing it. She's not reading like you would a child but TELLING the story. She gives certain tones and dialects that sound more natural than a lot of narrators I've listened to. Twas a pleasure.

This story does have a large dose of erotica and punishment.
Sierra Kline has a languorous way of narrating the story that at times feels like a slow rendition but overall has an enjoyable relaxing effect to the storytelling.
Melissa is just trying to get by, working hard to get a foot in as a real estate agent; she still works as a bartender on the weekends to make ends meet. When her loser as ex-boyfriend rips off the wrong people and they leave threatening messages in her apartment her first thought is to call her sister and her brother-in-law.
Cody Steele is the young Alpha of a small pack, he works hard and looks out for his own. However, when Ben Stone calls him asking for a favor he gets drawn in by the Beautiful real estate agent that is the human sister-in-law of another Alpha.
With misjudgment and assumptions running rampant between them along with an overdose of attraction these two struggle with their feelings for each other and about themselves. Cody's struggle with inadequacy and Melissa's fear of ending up with another loser bad boy boyfriend pull these two apart. Only if they can learn to forgive and trust again will they be able to be together.
