Jackson Gallagher never planned on coming back home to Sweetgrass Springs after being gone for 17 years, but when his Aunt Ruby calls and says she needs him to come he agrees. Veronica Butler never imagined she would see Jackson again and is terrified that he will learn the secret she has been keeping all these years. As life catches up to them both secrets and truths come to the surface and they must each face the demons they have kept at bay. Veronica’s children add a whole level of enjoyment to this story; they are absolutely adorable! There is also a good mystery afoot with Jackson’s business to add to the excitement. As with all of Jean Brashear’s books, it was difficult to put this one down and I enjoyed from beginning to end. Of course Eric Dove is an absolute joy to listen to as he brings the characters to life. Loved this story!
Any additional comments?
I could understand why Jackson never went back to Sweetgrass but NOT why he didn’t stay in touch with his family, especially his twin sister, for 17 years. That is a long time to let your family think your dead.
It was a little angsty, and Jackson and Veronica had a really hard time talking. She blamed him, he blamed her, over and over in their thoughts, but never saying it, never trying to straighten things out before it monotonous. But overall, it was a great romance.
Again, I’m glad this wasn’t just a romance, though. At least Jackson found out there was a mole in his company and he had to go home to find him or her. So, a little corporate espionage to go along with the romance.
It was nice seeing Ruby and Arnie again. As well as, Ian and Scarlett, Mackey and Rissa, and Pen. And I really liked Veronica’s kids, Ben, Beth and Abby. They were written as sweet respectful kids instead of total brats.
There was not an ounce of sexual tension, no desire, no wanting, no nothing that lead up to the one sex scene, so that was a bummer.
As to the narration: I never get tired of listening to Eric Dove. He does a wonderful job every time. Sexy men's voices and very good women's voices.
