Publisher's summary

Since being named "London's Lord to Land" by a popular ladies' magazine, Nicholas St. John has been relentlessly pursued by every matrimony-minded female in the ton. So when an opportunity to escape fashionable society presents itself, he eagerly jumps - only to land in the path of the most determined, damnably delicious woman he's ever met!

The daughter of a titled wastrel, Lady Isabel Townsend has too many secrets and too little money. Though she is used to taking care of herself quite handily, her father's recent passing has left Isabel at sea and in need of outside help to protect her young brother's birthright. The sinfully handsome, eminently eligible Lord Nicholas could be the very salvation she seeks.

But the lady must be wary and not do anything reckless and foolish…like falling madly, passionately in love.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

This book had me from the first chapter! I loved the banter between the characters and the h/h. The love scenes were of the "perfect temperature" (hot) and the narrator was very good. I do have a question for any avid historical romance readers out there however... WHAT IS IT WITH THE SENTENCE REPEATED IN EVERY STORY...SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES..THAT SAYS "SHE/HE RELEASED THE BREATH SHE/HE HADN'T KNOWN SHE/HE WAS HOLDING". Is this some type of code for something between authors or am I doomed to roll my eyes each and every time I hear it?? lol ME OTHER FAVORITE IS..." SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE SHE ENDED AND HE BEGAN " ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THESE TWO SENTENCES... okay, my rant is over for today. That being said, I did enjoy this book and am onto the next. OH, and one more thing...when books contain the same characters from book to book ...PLEASE NUMBER THEM FOR READING ORDER!!! (big sigh) I feel much better now. ;)

Awesome book and narrator..

Any additional comments?

I loved everything about this book and I don't even know how many time I laughed out loud. Loved Nick and Isabel, as well as the secondary characters, Lara, Rock, Jane, Kate, Gwen, James and Georgiana. It was a great love story filled with laughs, sexual tension and sex. Gotta love it..

As to the narrator: WOW!! I had never listened to Jane Wells before but I have to say she did a phenomenal job reading this book. Her emotions were just where they were supposed to be, laughing, crying, yelling, whispering but her sarcasm was the very best I've ever heard. I would definitely listen to her again. Awesome job, Ms. Wells..

Very well read EXCEPT for the multitude of mispronounciationsvv

This was my second listening and my first impression has been confirmed. It drives me crazy that so many producers of audiobooks allow repeated mispronunciations of common words. Ton should never be pronounced "tone" in an historical romance. Mary Jane Wells did a stellar job of dramatizing this book.
The is one of my favorites of the books I have read by Sarah MacLean. I recommend the Nine..., Ten....,Eleven... Series.

The second book in the unnamed series!

It's confusing when the books are not listed in a series as they are supposed to be. Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake is the first in this series. The third book is Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart and the fourth is being released soon but is actually marked as the fourth book under another series. They are all connected books. VERY strange.
This book was cute but not quite as cute as the first. The personalities introduced are all super likable but although the book was entertaining, I guess the easiest way for me to explain it is by saying I was not glued to it. The story was just not as grabbing. Finally the one to the last chapter the story upped it's excitement factor and ended on a great note. So this will not be a loss of time or point if you read it, of course, it's just good knowing you will not be reading a five star story and then you may like it more :) wen your expectations are lower.

Funny, moving and very sexy adventure!

First I want to say how much I enjoyed the narration of Mary Jane Wells. She did a phenomenal job with all the characters voices, both male and female, and her intonation and infections were nuanced and spot on. She really added to my enjoyment of this book. In particular, I loved her depiction of Nick's voice. It left me searching under her name for other books read by her, it's that good.

Lord Nicholas, (the twin brother of Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston from Book 1), is searching for someone as a favor to the Duke of Leyton, but what he finds is more than he ever could have expected, when he happens upon an imperious twenty five year old woman who's arrogance matches his own. A little clumsy and distracted, she's nearly run down in the street, but when he saves her life, she refuses to even thank him for it. Intrigued by her odd and imperious behavior, he wonders if she might have something to do with the missing person he seeks.

Lady Isabel is the spinster daughter of a deceased wastrel Earl. Left penniless, she has the responsibility of raising her 10 year old brother, and running their delapidated manor house and estate, alone. Well, not exactly alone, but to give too much away would ruin this great story! Life has taught Isobel not to trust men, so when Nick comes along, he doesn't stand a chance of breaking down her walls.

The odd ball cast of characters involved in this delicious and very sexy farce are unexpected and intriguing, and Isabel is a heroine to be reckoned with. We also get to see more of the St. John family.

This is a funny, moving and sometimes very sexy adventure, and a rare find. In fact, the first two books of this series are among my favorite books so far this year.

Buy this one. It's Highly Recommended!

narrator not as good as Carolyn Morris in book 1

It is true that the narrator can really bring a book to life. Carolyn Morris did such a splendid job on book 1, she was hard to follow. I found her male voice too insipid for the Nick who we met in book 1. I am just about to start book 3 with another narrator [maybe series should keep the same narrator ] I know the story line will be good, hopefully so will the narrator.

Who knows what you'll find in the country?

I enjoy Sarah MacLean's writing. I liked the new characters in 10 Ways, especially Isabel and Rock, and the carry-over characters from 9 Rules. I read the Rules of Scoundrels series first and loved it, so I was glad to see Georgiana's backstory. Nick and Rock's banter was hilarious, but Nick and Isabel's banter was more so. I especially enjoyed watching them work together in crisis. The mystery of the bulan was an intriguing thread.

As for the narrator, she was good, but had several annoying pronunciations (the ton, assumed, proven, palatable). I did like the way she distinguished thought and dialog. And especially when Nick and Isabel were trying to talk themselves out of something. At the end, Juliana's Italian accent did not carry over from the last narrator (only the Italian words).
