Publisher's summary

Listeners flock to USA Today and New York Times best-selling author Jodi Thomas’ Texas romances. Here, a rugged cowboy finds his hard heart softened by a desperate woman on the run. Happy to keep his head down and tend to his ranch, Teagen McMurray is certainly not looking for love. But then Jessie Barton—wife of Teagen’s bookseller friend Eli—and her three young daughters arrive on the scene seeking shelter. As he finds himself falling for the strong-willed Jessie, Teagen discovers things are not what they seem. Soon he’s protecting Jessie and her girls while battling a group of swindlers involved in a devious plot to take over a prosperous horse-breeding operation.

With this stirring addition to her Whispering Mountain series, Thomas continues to play with standard Western tropes in fresh ways. Linda Stephens leaves fans breathless with a stirring reading of this enlivening romance.

Shhh! Listen to another Whispering Mountain novel.

Excellent

A thoroughly enjoyable listen with good plot and character development. I didn't realize until the end that this book was part of a series. When I did, I downloaded the rest; and enjoyed each one every bit as much as this title.

Tall, Dark and Texan

Very predictable, very boring, narrated poorly and some voices were the same. I'd take a pass on this one.

A Love Story Built on Letters

The self we express in letters and conversation is part of an internal mythology. If well crafted, it is as good as therapy. The premise of this love story is engaging. I wish that Teigen and Jessie had talked more about their perception of the world through books. The stark contrast with reality does not have to be as dramatic as an unknown enemy coming to steal land. I'm still waiting to read a book that deals with mature love and passion between people in their 40's and 50's. Maybe Martha will fall in love, but I'd not enjoy reading about "Proper" love affairs.

Tall,Dark and Texan

This is my favorite book . I had read this book a long time ago , just listen for the second time. It has very thing I like in a book. Three little girls ,a woman that needs a place for her children , And she already half way in love with the man she going to meet.

Thumbs Up!

Any additional comments?

This was a good book and I would say, you wouldn't go wrong listening and/or reading it. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first, but the further I got into the story, the more I liked it. It was definitely an example of how things are not always what they seem and boy did Teagen find that out.

Jessie was a good strong Heroine but I liked Teagen best. He was just so sexy to me.

The Narrator: She was ok. Her male/female voices were ok, but there was something about the inflection she use that I wasn't terrible fond of. She sort of reminded me of William Shatner. Kind of over dramatic. I wouldn't avoid a book narrated by her but I wouldn't pick on because of her narration either.

Tall, Dark, and a heart of Rock

Teagen McMurray never wants to level Whispering Mountain and didn't much like people in general. All he ever wanted to do is take care of his ranch. But when he gets a letter from his only friend Eli asking him to take care of his wife and children, Teagen had no choice but to do what Eli asked.
Jessie Barton is on the run; now that her husband Eli is dead his mother says that she has no rights to the bookstore that Eli owned and that the three girls should come to live with her because Jessie has no money to take care of them. So Jessie is just looking for a safe place to land for a little while with her daughters.
This is one of Jodi Thomas' best books. All of the Whispering Mountain novels are great, but this one is one of my favorites. Jessie and the girls bring Teagen McMurray back to life. Linda Stephens does a wonderful job with the narration. If you like the Whispering Mountain series you'll love this one. If you are new to this series you'll find out just want makes Whispering Mountain great.

Story so good it compensates for narration!

Story & plot pulled me in, but after a little while I was distracted by the narration! The narrator's voice is pleasant as long as she's reading the women's parts. As she switches to men's & childrens voices they sound like crotchety, old men! However, Jodi Thomas' writing had me & I had to overcome & ignore the things I didn't like, so I could find out the details! If you can do this, then you'll be able to appreciate the story. If not, then don't waste your time & money on the audio...read the book! The story would be so much better to listen to, if it had a top notch narrator! Maybe someday the audio can be redone!!!
