Publisher's summary

Twenty-something Kat Reid is loving life as an in-demand Hollywood makeup artist. She has absolutely no interest in rock 'n' roll, but in order to pay the mortgage, she agrees to work on the set of a rock video for the world-famous rockers known as Bad Habit...which brings her face-to-face with Nico Nyx, lead singer of Bad Habit and Adonis in the flesh.

However, the fiercely independent Kat isn't impressed by the hard-living, womanizing rock star. But when Nico's model girlfriend shows up to the set drunk and Kat is tapped to replace her as the video's sexy bride, her combustible chemistry with Nico suddenly threatens to consume the set. Nico feels it, too—and becomes determined to win Kat over, body and soul. Yet behind his rock god swagger, Nico hides a dark secret. Can he rock Kat's world forever, or will he just break her heart?

Not really a rock star story

Yes, the main character is nominally a "rock star" but with the exception of the very beginning, music doesn't really factor into this. Plus the entire story is completely unbelievable. She treats him horribly (and is frankly an annoying and immature person to begin with), but somehow they fall in love with each other almost immediately and are engaged within days of actually being together. Their backstories/"issues" are also totally implausible, especially when thinking about how they deal with it. There are much better rock star stories out there....don't waste the credit.

IMO, SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST ROCKER LOVE STORIES

Yes, this well written story really captured my imagination as it drew me into a beautiful love story with a slowly unfolding dark web of secrets because everything and everybody was so well described. I felt like I was there on set when Kat and Nico first set eyes on each other, I felt their sizzling hot chemistry, the draw they felt for each other and I sympathised with Kat because she fought so hard to resist Nico because of his girlfriend Avery and because of her own bitter childhood history with a Musician for a Father.

From their first meeting the handsome Lead Singer Nico who oozed sex appeal was obsessed with the beautiful Kat who was funny, kind and smart and he promised he had no girlfriend, he promised to take things at her pace before having sex and he promised to protect her.... she only had to trust him. However, that was quickly put to the test when his distraught girlfriend came sobbing to his door, when dark family secrets in Nico's past were slowly revealed which hurt, and continued to inflict, heartache and devastating insecurities and that's when his demand for trust was eventually put to the test. Kat had two best-friends that were very influential, funny and supportive and were a constant presence throughout the story. But nothing could have prepared Kat for the twists, turmoil and destruction that Nico's hate filled brother was going to cause, the secrets he was going to reveal and the pain he was about to inflict for his revenge on Nico which was finally going to break her heart, her body and her very soul.

Told entirely from Kat's POV by a brilliant narrator who captured the emotions so well and gave each character a voice that was easily recognisable amongst the varied cast so it was easy to mentally picture each beautiful, painful, sexy, angst-filled and heartbreaking scene. It was a sexy, romantic and bitter-sweet love story that took me on a journey that was funny, breathtaking, hot, beautiful, terrifying, shocking and intense.

Worth a credit? I would have happily parted with a credit for this clever, jam-packed emotional love story but at $7.34 I just bought it saving a credit for a book that may not grab me the same, hold me captive to every word as this did and eventually leave me with that delicious 'feel good' sense you get after you've listened to a really really good listen.

Mixed feelings about this one.

I enjoyed the story line. I liked a strong female lead. I liked that it was different. However, the performance left me putting it a aside to listen to something better, which is why I gave it fewer stars. If I can put a book aside it is a sure sign that it will take me a while to finish it which means it is not holding my interest. Chances are I may not finish it all because I am not that invested in the story. I do not think this story is credit worthy, but perhaps a deeply discounted sale.

This book kept me interested from beginning to end!!! I have to agree the narrator voice bothered me. But I wouldn't put this book down for the world.

Loved the story hated the narrator

I loved the story!! The narrator was not good at doing male voices. I would have been able to get into the book more if I was not distracted by the strange voices for each character. If I were to get another book from this author I would read it rather than listen.

Fantastic Romantic Suspense @$7.34 Bargain

SWEET AS SIN is the first installment in J.T.Geissinger’s adult, contemporary BAD HABIT rocker romance series focusing on the rock band Bad Habit. This is lead singer and songwriter Nico Nyx, and makeup artist Kat Reid’s storyline.

Told from first person point of view (Kat) the story-line focuses on the tempestuous and insta-lust/love relationship between Kat and rock superstar Nico Nyx. Kat and Nico met on the set of Bad Habit’s latest video and the connection was immediate. Kat was hired as the make up artist but found herself defending Nico’s intoxicated ‘sometime girlfriend’ Avery Kane. What ensues is Nico’s pursuit of a reluctant Kat; and the fall out of too many lies, secrets and Nico’s intense and overwhelming need for Kat Reid. A good portion of the storyline finds Kat and Nico trying to negotiate between one another’s insecurities, and need for reassurance and affirmation. Jealousy, rivalry and a lack of trust are constant sources of turmoil and turbulence.

Nico and Kat are two broken souls whose past lives are filled with abuse, betrayal, and pain, and in this their ability to trust is non-existent. Nico keeps secret his history, revealing only what he wants Kat to know and in this Kat is unable to build the trust she requires to hand over her heart to the man with whom she is falling in love. The backstory is heartbreaking and reveals slowly over the course of the story-line but in doing so begins to build a wall between our leading couple.

SWEET AS SIN is a story-line with a large ensemble cast of characters including the members of the rock band Bad Habit. We are introduced to stylist Kenji; Nico’s head of security and best friend Barney; and Michael-Nico’s brother and a man whose past is darker than most. Kat’s support system comes via her two besties: Grace-a psychologist whose own history is a question mark but her ‘dislike’ of men finds Kat questioning everything about the man with whom she is falling in love; and Chloe-a local florist who may or may not have something for Nico’s bandmate AJ. AJ is a bit of a conundrum as his acerbic personality and contempt towards Chloe is nothing short of rude and abusive.

There is plenty of lighthearted humor between Kat, Grace and Chloe. The three best friends tell it like it is but in doing so never seem to upset the balance of their friendship. But there are also dark and dangerous moments as Kat and Nico face their fears, their pasts, and the truth. Secrets will be revealed; hearts will be broken; someone close will never again see the light of day. The requisite evil wants to ensure that Nico’s soul will be destroyed for all eternity. The disquietude and angst of the story-line is a roller coaster of emotional push and pull; the turmoil is a never ending path that is a constant source of worry and unease. I had to wonder if Kat and Nico would ever find their ‘happily ever after.’ When Nico’s past catches up Kat will be targeted in a game of cat and mouse.

J. T. Geissinger writes a gritty tale of family and friends; heartbreak and betrayal; love and a happily ever after. The premise is engaging and suspenseful; the characters animated, charismatic and passionate; the romance intense and emotional. The destructive nature of jealousy, rivalry and addiction reveals a traumatic history, and a disturbing past; one that will be difficult to overcome when secrets are kept hidden in the dark.

Teri Clark Linden was excellent with the delivery of the story.

Like It, But Didn't Love it....

Sweet As Sin was a little darker than I anticipated with plot filled with suspense, secrets, and a little danger, but was balanced out with a little humor, instant chemistry, and a few steamy scenes.

Some Spoilers;
Nico and Kate are an unlikely pair, he's the lead singer of Bad Habit, she's a make-up artist. Told only from Kat's POV, she meets Nico while on the set to do make-up for Nico, his girlfriend, and the band as they get ready to shoot their next music video. Nico's girlfriend is high, incapacitated, and unable to preform in the video. Instead of them rescheduling, he has Kat fill in for Avery. There's an immediate attraction, but Kat doesn't want anything to do with Nico because he has a girlfriend. Nico denies Avery is his girlfriend, and starts pursuing Kat. Once he convinces Kat he's single, they start a relationship. From the beginning, you get glimpses of Nico's slightly darker side. He doesn't handle his anger very well, but he's never abuses to Kat. One night while Kat is spending time with Nico at his place, Avery shows up. Nico doesn't hesitate to leave Kat's side to take care of Avery. Kat gets angry, breaks things off because Nico basically tells her, Avery will always come first. What Kat doesn't know Nico and Avery share a dark secret about their relationship. Everyone things she is his girlfriend, but their relationship goes much deeper. Nico may be a rock star, but his life before stardom wasn't pretty, and now his past is catching up to him, and affecting his and Kat's relationship.

Sweet As Sin had an interesting plot, not too dark, and filled with secrets that kept me engaged. I would have loved to have heard some of Nico's POV. It's definitely an instant love story, and while Nico's character had a way with words, the sex scenes were mild IMO. Nico did use sex as a way to express his anger, but it wasn't over the top.

The narration was good.

Worst musician story ever

I was so disappointed with this book.
Very absurd, very unrealistic story. Nothing about the music, musicians and the live they live.
I have heard much, much better books, like the sinners or sound of the heart.
Lost my time and money, do not read it if you can avoid... ;(

Only mediocre

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The 2 main characters have a weird connection to each other. They both seem to be over dramatic.

Would you be willing to try another book from J. T. Geissinger? Why or why not?

yes. I have read other books by her and enjoyed them. I enjoyed this one but only average.

What does Teri Clark Linden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Inflections of the voices that gives a better idea of what the characters are thinking

Did Sweet as Sin inspire you to do anything?

Leave this review because I just wasn't that impressed with it.

Disappointed

Did Sweet as Sin inspire you to do anything?

Fall asleep

Any additional comments?

This is my first book with both the author & narrator. Normally I love when the books are more than 8 hours, as long as the story is interesting, the sex is hot and the characters come to life by how the book is narrated. I would not recommend this book.
