What disappointed you about Swan Point?
The story line that a man who never had any attachments would almost immediately fall in love and want to marry a divorced woman with 4 kids. Come on, even if she was drop dead gorgeous, having four children would be enough to make the man at least want to take his time before marrying her. This story was absolutely ridiculous.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I've started "Beach Road" by Wendy Wax.
Did Janet Metzger do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, she used different voices.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Swan Point?
First of all the marriage proposal. Perhaps that could have been changed to a let's be a couple and see where this goes. Also, the Steel Magnolias have gone from being a group of good friends that support each other to a group of nosy, sex-starved, meddling women. They concentrated on making sure Adelia had sex with Gabe. They were intrusive and rude. Additionally, at one point, Raylene talks to Adelia about becoming a member of the Steel Magnolia group. It sounded more like she was being asked to join an exclusive group that ran the town.
Any additional comments?
I have listened to all 11 books in the Steel Magnolias series. I'm sure there will be a number 12 as the author set it up toward the end of this book. I believe it will involve Carolena leaving her abusive husband, which is a rerun of Raylene's story. I am very undecided about whether or not I will listen to any additional books that may be written in this series because this story was totally idiotic.
