Under the light of a full moon, the bewitching girl dances to the beat of the tribal drums. The firelight lays shadows in the hollow at the base of her neck. The soft slope of her breasts glows golden and warm. She whirls out of her lover's arms, and the sound of the tiny beads woven into her myriad braids is like the patter of raindrops on a summer's eve. Victor Strongheart watches, his beautiful princess bride at his side. But the heart is a treacherous thing that always longs for what it cannot have.
Victor Strongheart arrives to meet the princess that by written accord, he must take as wife. Annasai is everything a man may want: stunningly beautiful, sexy, bright, willing. Strongheart could not be happier - until Annasai's beloved cousin, Setiyah, all nettles and stings, dances in the moonlight!

Potentially good story, lackluster performance
I enjoyed the story and liked that it took place in the future with humanity and technology rebuilding from being made primitive again. The primary characters left me feeling like their interests were forced. I can't tell if it is because of the story or the performance- the way this is read brought me back to kindergarten with the inflection that was used. It was one voice for women and a deeper voice for the men. I couldn't feel any sort of emotion coming from the characters. The storyline was excellent and should have elicited much more emotion than it did.

Captivating - both well written and narrated
This story was so much better than I expected from the excerpt provided. I can’t remember exactly what I expected, now that I’m on the other side, but I can tell you that I wasn’t prepared to become so emotionally attached to the characters and their journey (both literally and figuratively). This story was beautifully written with just enough detail for a clear picture of the scenes, but not so much that I got bored. I find this issue is common with books set in a different version of the world or different world entirely, and was pleasantly surprised with the balance achieved in this book.
The story itself was captivating. It had laughter, romance, trauma, tragedy, love, heartache, happiness, and sorrow. There were some scenes that had me cringing and fearful for the characters, some that had me gasping in disbelief or anger, and some that had me smiling, amused with their escapades. It was an intense whirlwind that had me eager to listen through to the end. There was no cliff hanger, though there are related books that I’m interested to hear.
The narration was awesome - no wind tunnel effects, quality editing, and no distracting mispronunciations. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ms. Foster read me this book.
